The RA Perspective

Track bikes are a small slice of what we sell, but the Electron Pro RIO is worth understanding even if you've never ridden a velodrome. This is the bike Argon 18 built for the 2016 Rio Olympics — not a bike inspired by the Olympics or named after it. The RIO is the actual race platform, supplied to national federations competing at the Games, available here at retail.

The Pro Level Carbon Layup is Argon 18's highest construction tier for a reason. The stiffness-to-weight character of this frame is engineered for efforts where every watt needs to reach the rear wheel. There's no comfort tuning built in, no compliance for road surface variation. On a smooth velodrome surface that's exactly the right tradeoff — this frame is designed to translate force into velocity without softening the equation.

What we find compelling about the Oneness System is the genuine adjustability. Track racing is position-dependent in a way road racing isn't. Getting a rider into a precise pursuit tuck — and keeping them there for four kilometers — requires a cockpit that can be fine-tuned in small increments across bar height, extension length, and reach. The approximately 30 configuration options are a real functional range, not a marketing number.

The honest note: this is a frameset. You're building a complete track bike on top of it. Cranks, a bottom bracket, pursuit bars, a rear wheel with a fixed hub, and a front wheel are all separate costs. Budget accordingly. If you're serious about velodrome racing at the club or elite level, the Electron Pro RIO is the platform we'd point you toward — just go in with clear eyes on the total build.
