ISM was founded by Steve Toll, an avid cyclist based in Tampa, Florida. In 1997, following a painful ride with his wife, Toll sketched a design for a noseless saddle he believed could eliminate the discomfort caused by traditional saddle geometry. By 1999, the design was patented — a meaningful development in an industry where saddle design had gone largely unchanged for decades.
