Zipp Service Course 80 Handlebar Info
Zipp’s line of handlebars offers lots of options in terms of drop, reach, curve, materials, aerodynamics. The Service Course 80 Handlebar fits somewhere in the middle.
The name gives you the first important bit of info. The 80 in the name refers to 80mm of reach that is the distance the bar travels forward from the stem clamp to the brake perch. It’s longer than the 70, shorter than the 88.
The name Service Course refers to the line, which is where Zipp affects their pro racing designs in more economical 6061 aluminum.
Here, they pair the 80mm of reach with 125mm of drop. To get the shorter drop, they go to a more pronounced ergo shape.
To maximize wrist comfort and hand positions, they have a seven-degree ramp angle from the tops to the hooks so the brake levers can form a flat shelf with the bars. For the drops, they’ve canted the bars with an outward sweep of four degrees to improve wrist comfort. You’ll be happier in the drops and more powerful, too.
At 300g, in a 42cm center-to-center size, these are going to stand up to plenty of abuse. Zipp, btw, measures their bars center-to-center from the brake perch, not from the ends of the drops. The clamp diameter is 31.8mm. Because the bulge at the stem clamp section is wide, these bars are compatible with aero bar extensions.
The Zipp Service Course 80 Handlebar is what a traditional ergo bar should look like.
