The only way to make Zipp Nest Speed Weaponry (NSW) wheels any faster than they are is to pull out the stock bearings and install these CeramicSpeed bearings. This is nominally known as Zipp-9 Wheel Kit, but what you need to know is it includes six ceramic-hybrid bearings to replace the stock bearings, and with them installed, you gain speed and increase bearing life.

The kit includes four 61803 bearings, two for the front hub, two for the rear, a 61903 and a 61804, both of which go in the rear as well. This kit is designed for NSW rim brake wheels: 202, 303, 404, 454, and 808. The savings is in the neighborhood of six watts, which might read like a little, but it adds up. The longer you ride, the more time you’ll save.

There are both Coated and Un-Coated versions of the bearings. The difference is a three-micron coating placed on top of the surface of the bearing race, the hardened track the ceramic balls roll around. By making the races harder and smoother, the balls roll with less friction and are more tolerant of an environment where the lubrication has come off. CeramicSpeed has tested the Coated races to last 7.5 times longer than garden-variety bearings and 60% longer their own standard bearings.

The bearing kit comes with the bearings lubed and a 10ml syringe of CeramicSpeed’s All Around grease.
