The Assos tiburuJacketLaalalai is a jacket that keep you on just the right side of warm for much of the year. Nominally a spring and fall top, it verges into winter for those in milder climates and working out outside hard.

This jacket can work in a range of weather, it just depends on your baselayer choices. Go light and this can be a jacket for cool late-summer evenings, or for riding hard in warm rains, or cold cyclocross. Dress under a bit heavier, and you can be ready for cooler tempos or easier rides.

The jacket utilizes a mix of windproof and breathable fabrics. These are used to protect you from the chill, but still allow the jacket to vent sweat, keeping you enveloped in a comfortable microclimate. The highlighted textile is the Stratagon Millerighe a waterproof/breathable fabric deployed for the front panels. It’s amazing tech, it features a thermo-response membrane that opens up when it detects warmth and closes down when it detects cool. This way, it allows your body to breathe when you sweat, but then closes the pores when rain comes down. They’ve also worked in heavier, but breathable fabrics for the front of the sleeves, and lighter, more breathable fabrics on the back of the sleeves. The back panel has generous stretch to keep everything wrapped and close. And the wrists feature raw-cut edges to seal up the arms without binding

Fit is a big deal for Assos. They designed this to be close-fitting without constricting. There are sixteen components here, which takes time to build, but is totally worth it, something you realize the moment you pull it on. The collar is snug without being tight, the shoulders feel narrow until you grab your handlebars and then everything fits just so. The pockets are designed both for easy access and the security of knowing that they can be overloaded and still stay in place. There’s a luminescent strip on the outside of the rear waist elastic, the former for safety, the latter for fit.
