That ability to keep water out while allowing vapors to escape is a result of the fabric’s ability to adapt to the conditions and sense the change in ambient temperature. It has a flexible membrane that works with you and your production of heat and moisture. As the temperature under the hat rises, the membrane’s pores expand to allow excess water vapor to escape, without allowing rain water to penetrate.
