Colnago C59 Electronic Frameset Info

The Colnago C59 Electronic Frameset marked a pivotal evolution in frame design, bridging traditional craftsmanship with forward-looking technology. Launched in 2011, the C59 was built entirely in Cambiago, Italy, and remained true to Colnago’s hallmark approach of using carbon fiber tubes and lugs to create custom-tailored frames. The C59 offers unmatched fit options at a time when most carbon frames had shifted to monocoque construction. Key design cues like the recognizable horizontal and diagonal tube shapes paid homage to the Master and were carried into later C-series models like the C60 and C64. It is also the first Colnago frame to be offered in two distinct versions: one for electronic groupsets with internal routing and another for mechanical drivetrains, setting a new standard in drivetrain integration.

Visually, the C59 retains a classic silhouette, with details like squared chainstays and alloy rear dropouts emphasizing both heritage and stiffness. It was also one of the last Colnago frames to resist the industry-wide shift toward oversized tubing, preserving a sleek and balanced aesthetic. From a performance standpoint, the frame improved on the renowned comfort of the C40 while adding innovations such as the C-HS1 headset. Two notable variations underscore the model’s significance: the limited-edition white version with one of the first internally mounted Shimano Di2 batteries in the seatpost, and the groundbreaking C59 Disc, the first road bike shown with disc brakes at the 2012 Taipei show. Developed with Formula and featuring Colnago-designed hydraulic levers, the C59 Disc helped usher in the era of disc brakes for road cycling, cementing the C59 as one of the most versatile and forward-thinking frames in Colnago history.
