The Cervélo R5 is a world class climbing bike that has shown dominance all over the road on the World Tour. Each year, it gets lighter and faster, and this time around is no exception. It is the main bike of Team Visma-Lease a Bike on mountain stages and was most notably seen helping Jonas Vingegaard win two Tour de France titles. The newest iteration of the R5 is lighter and more aerodynamic than ever. It balances all of its features to remain comfortable through a grueling climb while getting you to the top as fast as possible. Of course, a climbing bike needs to be able to take on the inevitable descent. The R5 is ready to fly around hairpin turns with impeccable handling, making it a truly elite bike in all areas of road riding.
The R5 has always been one of the lightest bikes on the market but Cervélo keeps finding ways to shed more weight. They managed to make the new R5 frame 130 grams lighter than the previous model. This comes out to a staggering 16 percent weight reduction. Even the graphics and paint are lighter than before, giving you the lightest road bike you could possibly imagine. This version is equipped with Reserve 34TA and 37TA wheels which are also incredibly lightweight and fast. The Cervélo R5 is the kind of bike you want to have when it is time to charge up the mountains.
In addition to its weight reduction, the Cervélo R5 is flat out faster than ever. Obviously aerodynamics are not as much of a focus as they would be on the S5 or P5, but more speed never hurts. They used internal cable routing which reduced drag by 25 grams. This version comes equipped with a SRAM Red AXS E1 groupset for some of the best 12-speed electronic shifting in the world. A Quarq Zero power meter makes it a professional level setup. The R5 has a sweet spot of stiffness that is less than an aero bike but still leads to great power generation. While power transfer is important, you need to feel fresh, stable, and comfortable on difficult climbs. The Cervélo R5 is the kind of bike that is made to get you to the top but it is still fun and effective in every area of your ride. The Cervélo R5 is one of the best road bikes in the world for riders who want to dominate the climb.
