Shifting a chain off the big ring, past the little ring, and onto the frame is a more common occurrence thanks to modern shift systems. It’s the kind of thing that can chew your frame and end your race. Just ask Andy Schleck, the Luxembourger who lost the Yellow Jersey thanks to a dropped chain. Rotor solves the problem with their Chain Catcher. It’s 12g of insurance you don’t want to live without.

The thinking behind it is simple. By installing a vertical guard just to the inside of the small chainring, a chain that overshifts past the ring will stop at the guard and get guided back to the ring in the blink of an eye.

Rotor makes there out of CNC-machined 7075 aluminum. It hangs off the front derailleur fixing bolt that the derailleur utilizes to secure itself against the front derailleur braze-on or hanger. If you use a braze-on-style front derailleur and a clamp that secures that to the frame, it is compatible with that as well.

This catcher works with any braze-on style front derailleur and should work with almost any bike and with any crankset regardless of the tooth differential. This is thanks to the upper pivot and lower-adjustment system. Between the two, you can get the arm close enough to the ring that the chain will easily move back into place before your pedaling causes the teeth to slide under the chain.

The Rotor Chain Catcher comes in two colors and should work with aluminum, carbon, steel, and titanium frames.
