Assos LL.bonkaTights_s7 Info
If you feel yourself running out of energy more easily on your cold rides, you might not be keeping yourself warm enough. Typically, the legs are the last thing a cyclist covers up, but that is where we are losing a lot of heat, and the body is having to waste energy keeping them warm. But who likes to wear tights? The Assos LL.bonkaTights_s7 will be comfortable and warm for those long winter days in the saddle.
The bonkaTights are so reliable in the winter months because they have been made with a mix of the Assos RX heavy and stratagon fabrics. RX heavy is new to the Assos line-up and as soon as you pull these out of the box, you’ll see just why you will only need to turn to these once winter has well and truly hit. Stratagon is an ultralight elastic laminated fabric that is minimally thick. So it provides the perfect combo of thermal insulation and vapor permeability and is used on those areas that require special protection from the wind. For instance, it is an integral part of the blasenSchutz technology. The front of the tights around your midsection makes use of Assos’ blasenSchutz, or bladder protection. In spite of the name, this is an innovation you’ll be happy to have because they have inserted a panel of their Stratagon windblock fabric in the abdomen and the groin to keep that area warm and wind protected. Assos hopes it will help you not have to pee as much on cold rides. They have also given the bonkaTights their WR Treatment. The Assos WR is a new generation of water resistant treatment. It is chemically different from the DWR that other brands use, and has been developed to work specifically with Assos textiles.
Though you have probably come to expect this from Assos, it is worth noting that the bonka tights are anatomically cut to ensure the perfect fit while you are on your bike. Most noticeably, behind the knees have a new construction that tapers by using multiple panels so that there will be no excess fabric bunching when you are in your riding position. Assos has also used the RX Light fabric for this area since you don’t need so much heavy material behind your leg, which will help your legs ventilate and keep from overheating. Assos has also eschewed the ankle loop that has long been a staple of their tights. Instead, the ankle cuff is kept in place using the same gummy material used in the s7 shorts. If you’ve had to stop mid-ride to readjust the ankle straps causing painful pressure points in your shoes – underneath your rain booties – then you’ll really appreciate this little nod towards simplified designs.
These are s7 tights which means that they take advantage of all the s7 insert technology that you’ll find on the cento shorts. This is a performance-oriented insert designed for folks who ride all the time, and like their rides hard and fast. These are the only Assos winter tights that make use of this pad with the oddly named kukupenthouse, or the little “nest” to hold your grapes. They also sport the Assos Integrated Pad Protection design, which essentially extends the insert in the front beyond the end of the panel itself so that your ‘nads won’t have any seams to deal with. It will also have the goldenGate technology of the s7 pads such as the waffled memory foam which has been anatomically cut to provide the padding where needed, and reduce material where it will just get in the way.
The Assos LL.bonkaTights_s7 have reflective elements at the back of the calves to keep you visible in low level lighting, and there is even material wrapping around the ankles called Geoprene that works as a water barrier to keep your lower leg protected against road spray from rain or melting snow. You just lost your last excuse.
