Lizard Skins DSP 2.5mm Bar Tape Info

Lizard Skins is so named because they’ve come up with an impressively tacky surface.  Your hands stick to it in the dry, even stick to it in the wet, as the tape doesn’t absorb water.  They have three thicknesses of handlebar tape, one of which should satisfy any rider.  This DSP 2.5mm Bar Tape is the medium offering.  And it tickles the scales at 56g per set, including bar plugs.

DSP stands for DuraSoft Polymer, a closed-cell foam.  Durable and soft are two more qualities that the tape has.  A third is good looks, with the tap having a slight shine to it.  The tape resists discoloration better than many cork-style tapes, which is nice when you’re using tape to add color to your bike.  And it washes well, to boot.  The feel is rubbery, something that sticks well to hands as well as to gloves.

The set comes with two 82-inch rolls of tape, two loose pieces of tape to place around the brake clamps, two end plugs, and two strips of finishing tape.  The tape is backed with adhesive and has some give to it, though Lizard Skins suggests you only want to stretch it enough to provide even tension for wrapping.  The edges of the tape are beveled so the tape lies flat when wrapped.

While Lizard Skins is American-made, they’ve had an impact on the European peloton, with Team Dimension Data, Lotto-Soudal, and Movistar all wrapping their bikes with the stuff.

Lizard Skins DSP 2.5mm Bar Tape comes in several colors as well as several Camo and dual-color versions.
