Compared to the V4Rs, the Y1Rs reduces frontal area by 19 percent through innovations like the CC.Y1 handlebars with WYND technology and a curved downtube. These features optimize airflow in all wind conditions, reducing drag and improving overall efficiency. Wind tunnel tests confirm that the Y1Rs requires 20 fewer watts than the V4Rs to sustain 50 km/h, helping riders stay fresh and fast.
The Y1Rs frame is 3.5 percent stiffer than its predecessor, ensuring immediate power transfer for explosive sprints. The CC.Y1 handlebars, featuring a distinctive gull-wing design, enhance aerodynamic performance while maintaining the stiffness needed for high-output efforts. A DEFY seatpost joint improves aerodynamics in the seatpost area while absorbing vibrations, enhancing rider comfort during long breakaways without sacrificing responsiveness. This combination of stiffness and compliance makes the Y1Rs ideal for both sprint finishes and high paced endurance efforts.
Colnago uses both real world testing and technological advancements to assure top speed. The development begins with advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, conducted in collaboration with leading universities, to refine airflow efficiency. Using 3D printing, Colnago then produces physical prototypes to test and adjust design elements for optimal results. These prototypes undergo rigorous wind tunnel testing, both as standalone frames and in full race setups, simulating real-world conditions to validate aerodynamic advantages.
The final production models are tested in race scenarios to confirm their effectiveness beyond controlled environments. The Y1Rs is fully compatible with modern electronic groupsets and features an integrated design, including custom bottle cages and an aerodynamic seatpost. This version is equipped with a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 groupset for some of the best 12-speed electronic shifting on the market. Every detail is optimized to reduce weight, enhance aesthetics, and maximize speed. The Y1Rs is the newest addition to Colnago’s already dominant line of professional level road bikes.
