Scott Spark RC Comp Bike Info

The Scott Spark RC Comp Bike carries the DNA of Scott's World Cup cross-country program into a build that doesn't require a race license to justify. The Spark RC is Scott's race-oriented full-suspension platform — "RC" standing for Race Carbon — and the HMF (High Modulus Fiber) carbon frame at this level delivers the stiffness-to-weight ratio that makes a meaningful difference on technical climbs and high-speed singletrack alike. At 120mm of travel front and rear, it sits at the cross-country sweet spot: enough suspension to absorb real trail chatter and roll over obstacles without the weight and slop of a trail bike.

HMF Carbon Frame and Flex Pivot Suspension

Scott's Integrated Suspension Technology describes how the rear shock is tucked low into the frame structure rather than mounted in a conventional position. This lowers the center of gravity, protects the shock from debris, and contributes to the clean, compact silhouette that defines the Spark RC platform. The rear suspension uses Scott's Flex Pivot design — a system that uses a short carbon link to handle small-bump compliance without the maintenance demands of a traditional bearing pivot at that location. The frame also includes the Syncros Cable Integration System, which routes cables and hoses internally for a clean cockpit and reduced exposure to mud and rocks. The UDH interface means the rear derailleur hanger is SRAM's Universal Derailleur Hanger standard, making future derailleur replacements straightforward.

TwinLoc Suspension Control

The Spark RC Comp's most distinctive feature on trail is TwinLoc — Scott's handlebar-mounted remote that adjusts both the fork and rear shock simultaneously with a single lever. Three modes cover the full range of XC conditions: Lockout for maximum pedaling efficiency on smooth climbs, Trail for open suspension on technical terrain, and Descend for a slightly lower, slacker position with more travel available. The fork is a FOX 32 Float Rhythm with Grip damper, running 120mm of travel on a 44mm offset — a geometry-appropriate choice for the Spark's 67.2-degree head tube angle across all four frame sizes. The rear shock is a custom FOX Float LV EVOL Performance Trunnion, tuned specifically for the Spark RC chassis with DPS damping and rebound adjustment, at a T165X45mm size.

SRAM Eagle 70 Transmission Drivetrain

Shifting runs through SRAM's Eagle 70 Transmission — a T-type compatible 12-speed system that uses SRAM's magnetic contact between cassette and derailleur rather than a traditional B-gap setup. The result is more consistent shifting under power with less sensitivity to dirty conditions. A 34-tooth chainring pairs with the SRAM XS-1270 V2 cassette in 10-52, giving a low gear capable of steep sustained climbs and enough top end for fast fire roads. The trigger shifter matches the Transmission spec. Braking comes from SRAM DB4 4-piston hydraulic disc calipers with Centerlock rotors — 180mm front, 160mm rear — a meaningful upgrade over 2-piston brakes on a bike used in steep, technical terrain.

Wheels, Tires, and Cockpit

Wheels are Syncros X-30SE tubeless-ready rims with a 30mm internal width — well-suited to the Maxxis Rekon Race tires in 29x2.4 EXO/TR spec. The Rekon Race is a fast-rolling XC tire with enough cornering knobs to handle hardpack and loose dirt without the rolling resistance of a more aggressive tread. The Syncros Duncan Dropper seatpost runs 100mm of drop across all frame sizes, which is appropriate for XC racing and functional for riders who want to get the saddle out of the way on descents. The handlebar is a 740mm flat Syncros Fraser 2.0 XC alloy bar. One useful detail: the Syncros headset includes an angle adjust system that allows ±0.6-degree head angle adjustment, letting riders dial in steering character without changing components.

The RA Perspective

The Spark RC sits in an interesting position in Scott's lineup. It's built on the same race platform that Scott's World Cup XC athletes have ridden to podiums, but the Comp spec brings the price down to where the bike is accessible without gutting the components that matter most.

What matters most on an XC bike is suspension performance and drivetrain reliability, and this build gets both right. The FOX 32/Float LV combo with TwinLoc is genuinely good — the ability to lock both ends out simultaneously with one hand is something you use constantly on XC rides, and once you have it, going back to a fork-only remote feels like a step backward. The Grip damper on the FOX 32 is a real damper, not a pop-off Fit cartridge, which means it responds more consistently over a full ride.

The SRAM Eagle 70 Transmission is newer territory at this price point. The T-type contact shifting is more forgiving of dirty conditions than traditional cable-actuated systems, and the 10-52 cassette range handles everything from flat-out sprinting to grinding up sustained fireroad climbs. The DB4 brakes are 4-piston, which you notice on the first steep descent — they modulate more predictably than 2-piston brakes under heavy load.

The 100mm dropper is the one compromise we'd call out. It works, but riders coming from trail bikes will notice the limited drop on technical descents. It's an appropriate spec for a dedicated XC race bike; if you're planning to ride this more aggressively, budget for a longer-travel dropper upgrade down the line.
