Colnago C72

In a Category of its Own

A Heritage You Can Feel

The Colnago C Series began in 1989 with the C35, marking the brand's thirty-fifth year. Every number since - C40, C50, C59, C60, C64, C68 - represents another decade of refining the same idea: a carbon road bike built by hand in Italy, from tubes bonded to sculpted lugs, by people who have been doing this their whole lives. The C72 is the newest chapter in that story, and it reads like every one before it. Purpose first, pedigree built in.

Seven Pieces, One Soul

Most carbon road bikes today are pressed out of a single mold. The C72 is not. It is assembled from seven individual carbon parts - tubes bonded to sculpted lugs - each one shaped for the job it does. That modular construction lets Colnago fine-tune stiffness, compliance, and force distribution with a precision a monocoque cannot match. And the lugs are not hidden. They are the design. A small gap between the lug and the tube catches the light the way panel gaps do on a coachbuilt car.

Painted by Hand in Cambiago

Every C72 is finished in the Colnago factory in Cambiago, Italy. Layers of paint are laid down, sanded flat, cleared, and polished by people whose names hang above the bench. The result is a finish that does not just look deep - it feels deep when the light moves across it. The HFRD, HFWS, HFBK, and HFTB liveries were designed to show that depth off.

The down tube now opens to a sealed storage pouch. A mini ratchet wrench, a CO2 inflator, and a TPU spare inner tube fit inside - out of sight, out of the jersey pocket.

The new CC.02 is 15g lighter than the outgoing CC.01. A revised curve shape and flared drops give better brake control in the hooks and a sharper low position when you want it. Six length and width combinations cover every rider.

The cage mounts now sit flush with the down tube and seat tube. Cleaner visual lines, less air disturbance around the bottles, and no extra hardware poking out of the frame.

Designed around 30mm tires - but there is room for 35mm if you want the extra comfort. That is 5mm more than the C68 allowed. Enough to change how the bike rides on broken pavement.

Brake hoses and wires route through the cockpit and headset, never exposed. Clean lines, less wind noise, easier to clean after a wet ride.

Built for the Long Ride

The rear triangle and seat area of the C72 were redesigned specifically to improve compliance - how much the frame absorbs before the road reaches the rider. Paired with the extra tire volume, the C72 takes the edge off rougher tarmac without ever going soft under power. It still stays sharp when you stand up and drive it.

The stack-to-reach ratio has been opened up so you can sit on the C72 the way you want to sit on it. A flatter, more aggressive position for the racer. A more upright, endurance-focused position for the rest of us. A steeper steering angle and longer fork rake keep the handling responsive either way. Same frame. Same soul. Different rider.

A Category of One

There is nothing else like it because there was never meant to be. The C72 is what happens when a company with fifty years of carbon experience refuses to take the easy route.
