Reynolds G700 Wheelset Info

The Reynolds G700 Wheelset takes the carbon wheel engineering the brand built its name on and applies it to gravel riding rather than road racing. Reynolds has built carbon wheels since engineer Paul Lew designed the first carbon clincher rim, and the brand still hand-lays its carbon in its own factory rather than outsourcing the process. At $1,449.99, the G700 sits at the same price as Reynolds' road-focused AR41 and AR80 wheelsets, but the engineering priorities shift here — durability and tire volume matter more than outright aero depth, since the terrain this wheel is built for doesn't reward the same tricks that work on pavement.

That shift shows up immediately in the rim's 26mm depth, shallow compared to Reynolds' road wheels and intentionally so — a gravel wheel needs to survive rock strikes and rough surfaces more than it needs to cheat the wind. The rim uses a hookless design paired with Reynolds' CR3 TSS tubeless channel, a low-profile setup that's become the standard approach for modern gravel wheels because it simplifies tubeless setup and tolerates a wider range of tire widths without the tire wall pulling away from a hooked bead. External rim width comes in at 25mm, wide enough to properly support the larger-volume tires gravel riding calls for without the tire ballooning past its intended shape.

Reynolds builds the G700 around its own Ringle SRX Road DB hub, a 3-pawl design with 12 degrees of engagement and a Centerlock disc brake interface. Front axle spacing comes in 12x100mm, with a 15x100mm option available, and the rear runs a 12x142mm thru-axle — standard modern gravel and road disc spacing that fits the vast majority of current disc-brake gravel frames. Freehub compatibility covers Shimano's 11-speed standard and SRAM XDR out of the box, with Campagnolo's N3W freehub available as well. Sapim Sprint bladed spokes build up both wheels in a 3-cross pattern at 24 spokes front and rear, with external brass nipples — a build oriented toward durability and serviceability rather than shaving the last few grams off a wheel that's going to take a beating anyway.

Total wheelset weight comes in at 1,545 grams, a reasonable number for a carbon gravel wheel built to survive rougher terrain than a road wheel ever sees. Reynolds designs the G700 for use across gravel, roots, and pavement, which is really the point of a gravel wheelset done well: a rider shouldn't need to swap wheels between the dirt sections of a ride and the paved connectors between them. The wide hookless tubeless setup lets riders run lower pressures for grip and comfort off pavement while still rolling efficiently once the surface smooths back out, and the tubeless-ready channel is set up to handle the wider gravel tire volumes riders are increasingly running.

Reynolds also builds the G700 in a 650b version for riders running smaller-diameter, higher-volume tires, though this listing covers the 700c build most riders will default to for mixed gravel and road use. For a rider who wants Reynolds' carbon wheel engineering — the same hand-laid construction and in-house hub design that shows up across the brand's road wheels — built specifically to survive gravel racing, bikepacking, or a rough daily commute, the G700 brings that engineering to terrain a road wheel was never meant to handle.

The RA Perspective

We recommend the G700 to riders who are already sold on gravel and want a real carbon upgrade rather than a compromise between a road wheel and something purpose-built for dirt. The hookless, wide-channel setup makes a noticeable difference in tubeless setup and tire fit compared to older hooked gravel rims — tires seat more predictably and hold air better at the low pressures gravel riding rewards.

The honest tradeoff is that this isn't the lightest carbon gravel wheel on the market, and if you're building a dedicated race bike for the lightest possible setup, there are pricier, lighter options from Reynolds' own Blacklabel line. What the G700 gets you instead is a genuinely durable build — the 24-spoke, 3-cross pattern and brass nipples are chosen for surviving rock strikes and washboard roads, not for winning a scale competition.

We'd point this wheelset toward a rider doing gravel racing, bikepacking, or long mixed-surface days who wants one set of wheels that handles the pavement connectors as well as the dirt. It's a smart, durable choice for someone who rides gravel often enough to want carbon, but doesn't want to babysit a wheelset built only for perfect conditions.
