ENVE AG28 Tubeless Wheelset Info
The ENVE AG28 Tubeless Wheelset is part of ENVE's Foundation Collection, built to bring the ride quality of the brand's G Series gravel wheels down to a more approachable price point. Made in Ogden, Utah, this 650b gravel wheelset carries the same hookless carbon construction ENVE built its reputation on, just packaged for riders who want that performance without paying for the top-tier line. RA Cycles has it priced at $1,400, down from a $1,750 regular price, which still reflects what a hand-built, American-made carbon wheelset costs to produce.
Where the AG line splits by wheel size, the AG28 is the 650b option, built around a 28mm internal rim width — wider than its 700c AG25 sibling's 25mm profile. That width is deliberate: ENVE built the AG28 to run high-volume tires starting around 45mm, the range where bikepacking rigs and mixed-terrain gravel bikes actually live. A 21mm rim depth keeps the wheel low and vertically compliant, so it can absorb chatter and small impacts from rocks and roots rather than transmitting every hit straight to the rider. The wide hookless bead is the other piece of that durability picture — ENVE designed it to resist pinch flats and take impact hits better than a traditional hookless rim, with the brand citing roughly a 60 percent reduction in flats compared to their earlier hookless designs.
ENVE reinforces the rim with molded spoke holes, which strengthens each spoke's connection point without adding extra material, and pairs that with an external nipple structure that makes truing and spoke replacement more straightforward than a wheel with internal nipples buried inside the rim. It's a wheel built on the assumption that it's going to take hits on rough terrain over years of use, and ENVE backs that with its limited lifetime warranty, the same guarantee that covers the rest of the brand's wheel range.
The wheelset uses ENVE's Foundation hub platform, which shares its internals with ENVE's higher-end hub but in a simplified shell, spinning on sealed cartridge bearings that don't require regular maintenance. RA Cycles carries this build with an HG11 freehub body for Shimano and SRAM 11-speed drivetrains and a Centerlock rotor interface, running standard 12x100mm front and 12x142mm rear thru-axle spacing. A complete wheelset comes in right around 1,460 to 1,480 grams, light enough to notice on a climb without cutting corners on the durability the AG28 is built around.
Put together, the ENVE AG28 Tubeless Wheelset is a fit for the gravel rider or bikepacker who wants carbon wheel performance built to run wide, high-volume tubeless tires over rough, unpredictable terrain — a wheelset built to handle whatever's past where the gravel ends.
