ENVE AG25 Tubeless Wheelset Info

The ENVE AG25 Tubeless Wheelset is the lighter, shallower option in ENVE's AG gravel wheel lineup, built for riders who want a gravel wheelset that climbs well without giving up capability on descents and sprints. It's based on the design of ENVE's original Foundation AG wheels, with additional testing aimed at improving durability over that earlier version. At $1,400 on sale from a $1,750 regular price, it's a way into ENVE's carbon gravel wheel platform below the wider, deeper AG28.

The rim runs a 21mm depth with a 25mm internal width and 33.5mm external width, a shallow, wide profile meant to add vertical compliance so the wheel damps vibration from rocks and rough gravel rather than transmitting it straight to the rider. ENVE builds the rim hookless, which the company says reduces flats from hard impacts by 60 percent compared to a traditional hookless design. The nipples sit external to the rim rather than buried inside it, a detail that ENVE says improves durability and makes truing or spoke replacement more straightforward for a shop or a mechanically inclined rider.

Spokes are Sapim CX Sprint, laced 24 per wheel, paired with ENVE's Foundation alloy hub running fully sealed bearings that don't require regular maintenance. This build is set up with an HG11 freehub for Shimano and SRAM 11-speed drivetrains on an XDR driver body, and uses standard 12x100mm front and 12x142mm rear thru-axle spacing rather than a wider Boost platform. Complete, the wheelset weighs 1,480 grams with these hubs — light enough to matter on long climbs without sacrificing the durability gravel riding demands.

ENVE recommends tire widths from 32mm up to 50mm on this rim, with a sweet spot around 36 to 50mm for the volume and tire profile the AG25's internal width is built around. That range covers everything from a fast gravel race setup to a loaded bikepacking tire, without needing a second wheelset for different terrain. Between the shallow, compliant rim, the lighter overall build, and a hub platform that doesn't need constant service, the AG25 fits riders who spend more time climbing and grinding through mixed terrain than descending at speed, while still holding up on the way down.

The RA Perspective

The AG25 is the wheel we point gravel riders toward when they want ENVE's carbon ride quality but don't need the wider AG28's extra tire volume. At 1,480 grams, it's noticeably lighter than the deeper option in the lineup, and that shows up on long gravel climbs and extended days in the saddle where wheel weight adds up.

The shallow 21mm rim depth is the right call for mixed-terrain gravel. It's not chasing aero numbers — it's tuned for vertical compliance, so washboard roads and chunky gravel feel less punishing than on a deeper, stiffer rim. That comfort does come with a tradeoff: this isn't the wheel for someone who wants maximum stiffness for out-of-saddle sprinting on pavement.

The external nipple design is a detail we appreciate from a service standpoint — truing this wheel or replacing a spoke is a more straightforward job than on wheels with nipples buried inside the rim bed, which matters if you're riding somewhere far from a shop.

We'd recommend the AG25 to gravel riders and bikepackers who prioritize a lighter, more forgiving ride over outright tire volume, want a 32-50mm tire range for flexibility across different routes, and appreciate a low-maintenance hub they won't need to service constantly.
