Yeti ASR T4 Bike Info
The Yeti ASR T4 Bike brings one of mountain biking's most storied platforms back to relevance — and then some. The ASR first appeared in 2003 with a flex stay design that was a decade ahead of its time in XC suspension. The current generation represents the most ambitious carbon engineering project in Yeti's history: the lightest full-suspension bike they have ever built, redesigned for an era of XC racing that demands more than just lungs. Today's cross-country courses are rowdier, faster, and technically demanding enough that efficiency alone isn't enough. The ASR was built for exactly that shift.
The frame is Yeti's TURQ-Series carbon — their highest-grade construction — and the weight savings happen at every level of the build. Custom ply shapes, size-specific single-sheet layups, and hollow pivot construction eliminate redundant material throughout. That last detail is notable: where most manufacturers use solid carbon at pivot points for simplicity, Yeti removed the interior volume while still meeting the demands of competitive XC racing. Each frame size is individually tuned for torsional stiffness and chassis flex, so a rider on an XS gets the same ride character as a rider on an XL. Consistency was the goal; Yeti calls it size-specific stiffness, and it shows in how predictably the bike handles across the range.
The 115mm of rear travel runs through Yeti's modernised flex stay design. The rear triangle uses the carbon tubing walls themselves as structural elements at the pivot points — a dual-duty approach that sheds weight without sacrificing the rigidity needed for sprint efficiency. The leverage rate is near-linear through the mid-stroke, where XC racers spend most of their time, with 10% progressivity that ramps in the last quarter of travel to absorb bigger hits without unsettling the line. At 20% sag, small-bump sensitivity is closer to what you'd expect from a longer-travel trail bike than a traditional XC race machine.
Design Benefits
- TURQ-Series carbon with zero redundant material — Yeti's highest-grade carbon uses custom ply shapes, intelligent draping methods, and hollow pivot construction to eliminate unnecessary weight at every point in the frame — a process driven by in-depth carbon analysis tools that Yeti describes as a brand first.
- Size-specific stiffness tuning — Because each frame uses precisely cut single-ply carbon layups rather than stacked sheets, Yeti can independently dial torsional stiffness and chassis flex for every size. A smaller rider and a larger rider get the same ride characteristics, not the same layup.
- Modernised flex stay suspension — The flex stay design dates to Yeti's 2003 heritage, but the current version is built around modern short-stroke shocks and XC kinematics. Near-linear mid-stroke progression with 10% end-stroke ramp means the suspension tracks small bumps efficiently and handles bigger impacts without blowing through travel.
- RockShox SID Ultimate 3P with TwistLoc — The SID Ultimate is a genuinely premium XC fork. The 3P damper delivers a fork-specific tune, and TwistLoc integrates with the SRAM TwistLoc Ultimate grips to lock both fork and shock simultaneously for pedaling efficiency on climbs or fire roads — no separate remote levers required.
- Fox Transfer SL Factory dropper — The ASR's shorter seat tube design was engineered specifically to accommodate full-stroke droppers. The Fox Transfer SL Factory is a short-travel post built for XC use — lightweight, reliable, and gives the travel needed to get off the saddle on aggressive descents without carrying unnecessary weight.
- Hangerless Interface — The ASR's rear axle interface allows Eagle Transmission derailleurs to mount directly to the axle, gripping both sides of the frame for the most precise shifting possible. The included UDH adapter maintains full compatibility with SRAM XX1 Eagle and all legacy groupsets.
- Modern XC geometry — A 66.5° head tube angle across all sizes keeps steering responsive without going twitchy. The seat tube angle runs steep (70.4–72.1° depending on size) for a climbing position that efficiently weights both wheels. Bottom bracket height is calibrated to pedal cleanly through rock gardens while staying low enough for rail-like cornering.
- Integrated frame fender and two-bottle clearance — The integrated rear fender keeps mud out of the suspension linkage on technical days, and the frame accommodates two water bottles inside the main triangle — meaningful on longer XC races and backcountry missions where hydration packs aren't ideal.
Final Take
The ASR T4 is the entry point into a race-proven mountain bike platform. The TURQ carbon frame, flex stay suspension, Hangerless Interface, and integrated fender are identical to what you'd find on the higher-tier ASR builds — the differences are in spec, not in the chassis. The T4 pairs premium suspension (RockShox SID Ultimate on both ends, Fox Transfer SL Factory dropper) with a SRAM XX1 Eagle drivetrain and DT Swiss XM1700 wheels — solid XC equipment that performs well and can be upgraded independently as priorities shift. At $7,900, this is an accessible way into a platform that was designed, from the carbon up, to win.
