Yes, you’ll want an inner short or liner for these bottoms. Assos naturally recommends their own, specifically the H Rally innerShorts s7, which not only have a chamois, but also hip pads. Anything, including your regular cycling shorts will work.
The shorts are long enough to cover your legs pretty much to your knees. They’re cut low in the front and high in the back and feature a cargo pocket big enough to fit an Apple iPhone 7, though you’d be better off using it for gels, and money (leave your phone in the car and ride free).
The majority of the short is built out of Type.498 StonePine Tex, a water-repellant, fast-drying synthetic. Tech Sheen panels are added for stretch and breathability. Both are finished with a DWR, Durable Water Repellant treatment that keeps it dry, both from your sweat and from the elements.
