Make no mistake, the Assos Lady iJ.pompaDour_S7 Jacket is a serious piece of riding equipment. Perhaps most unusually, Assos is making it very clear that this is not a lady’s jacket building on any technology found in an earlier lady’s jacket. Rather, this is a full-on, no-expense-spared women’s design and cut of the very successful – some would say essential – men’s iJ.bonKa. Never fear, though. It’s not that the women’s umaJack, for instance, was inferior or anything like that. It’s just that Assos found that the material advancements combined with the ergonomic cut worked so well with the bonKa that it just had to be adapted for the serious female rider.
 
The iJ.pompaDour_S7 Jacket is a cold weather solution for comfortable outdoor riding. It has been designed to work in tandem with an Assos skinFoil base layer, which one you choose depends on the weather outside and your intended effort. But you shouldn’t need more layers than that, with perhaps an emergencyVest tucked into your back pocket or saddlebag in case of a cold wind picking up mid-ride. Since Assos uses no fewer than ten different textiles in this jacket, it’s hard to know where to start. Most importantly, Assos is making use of its twinDeckFoiling technology to combine two of their most advanced fabrics. The chest front panel section becomes a double-layer construction, which finds stratagonUltra airBlock textile on the outside for wind protection and ventilation, and RXQ fabric inside for insulation and moisture management. The rear panels make use of the RXQ material as well to keep your back and shoulders warm and dry. The back also has a rear stabilizer panel that secures the jacket in place even when the pockets are fully loaded.
 
Recognizing that the arms receive as much wind as the chest, Assos has included an airBlock membrane textile that they call stratagonMedium to keep the wind off, while the stratagon remains permeable so your sweat can escape. To protect the all-important and too-often ignored neck area, Assos has introduced to the collar of the iJ.pompaDour an ergonomically shaped inner layer turtleneck construction that contours to your chest and neck perfectly. This is the grandchild of what we first saw with the fugu  jacket years ago. It allows you to ventilate the jacket without introducing too much cold air to hit your neck and flow down the front of your torso. It is an essential feature especially if you do a lot of climbing in the winter months.
