Wilier Rave SLR ID2 GRX Di2 Bike Info
The Wilier Rave SLR ID2 is what happens when an Italian racing brand stops treating gravel as a compromise between road and off-road, and commits fully to building something purpose-made for the discipline. The second generation of Wilier's Integrated Design gravel race platform, the Rave SLR ID2 brings a redesigned aero carbon frame, 52mm tire clearance, and Shimano's GRX Di2 electronic drivetrain into one package that makes a compelling case for gravel bikes that don't apologize for being fast.
This is a bike with a clear point of view: it's here to race gravel, and everything about it reflects that focus.
SLR Carbon and Size-Specific Engineering
The Rave SLR ID2 is built on Wilier's SLR carbon — Super Light Rigid construction that brings the frame weight down to 990g while maintaining the torsional stiffness you need when accelerating out of a loose corner on gravel. What's less common in the category is what Wilier does across the size run: every frame size from XS to XXL gets individually redesigned tube dimensions to maintain consistent stiffness characteristics at each end of the range. A size XS and a size XXL Rave SLR ID2 don't just scale geometrically — they're engineered to ride the same.
Geometry is race-focused throughout. A compact wheelbase and short rear triangle create quick, responsive handling that rewards aggressive riding on technical terrain. The 70.8° head angle on a medium keeps steering precise without becoming twitchy, and fully integrated cable routing keeps the cockpit clean while reducing the aerodynamic penalty of exposed housing.
Tire clearance has been dramatically expanded from the previous generation — from 42mm up to 52mm — with 6mm of clearance between tire and frame to prevent mud packing in wet conditions. You can run 35mm rubber for fast packed-gravel events, push to 45mm for rougher terrain, or go the full 52mm when the course demands it.
Aerodynamics That Actually Matter on Gravel
Gravel aerodynamics used to be an afterthought. Wilier spent serious wind tunnel time on the Rave SLR ID2's development, and the numbers back up the investment: the ID2 achieves an 8.9% reduction in drag versus its predecessor, translating to 5.3 watts saved at 35km/h. Over a 70km gravel race at 350 watts average, that's more than 50 seconds — a meaningful margin in any competitive context.
The NACA-profiled down tube is central to this story. It widens toward the bottom bracket to shield your water bottles from airflow, turning one of the biggest drag sources on a gravel bike into something that actively contributes to aerodynamic efficiency. The fork design draws from Wilier's Supersonica SLR road platform, with wide stays optimised for larger tire sizes without widening the frontal profile.
The result is a bike that's genuinely faster through the air than it looks — and it already looks fast. The four available colorways (Pixel Green Matte, Glitch Black, Neon Purple, Byte Cream Matte) are bold enough to match the performance intent without looking garish on the start line.
Shimano GRX Di2 — Electronic Precision for Rough Terrain
The GRX Di2 drivetrain is Shimano's premium gravel-specific electronic groupset, and it's an excellent match for the Rave SLR ID2's race-focused character. GRX Di2 brings Shimano's proven Di2 electronic shifting platform to gravel-specific ergonomics — the levers are shaped for use with gloves and in wet conditions, shift response is instant and consistent regardless of how hard you're pedaling, and the system handles dirt and contamination better than mechanical alternatives.
The build runs a 42T chainring paired with a 10-46T cassette, giving you the spread to manage extended climbs without spinning out on fast descents or long gravel connectors. Single-chainring is the only correct choice here — the Rave SLR ID2 is designed exclusively for 1x setups, with a Universal Derailleur Hanger and compatibility for cassettes up to 52 teeth if you want to push the range further. Eliminating the front derailleur reduces weight, simplifies cable routing, and removes one more mechanical variable from race-day preparation.
Built for Gravel Racers, Not Compromisers
The Wilier Rave SLR ID2 GRX Di2 is for competitive gravel riders who want a race-focused carbon platform with the reliability and refinement of electronic shifting. If you're targeting gravel events — Unbound, BWR, your regional race calendar — and want a bike where the engineering is aligned with your ambitions, this is where to start.
It's worth being direct about what the Rave SLR ID2 is not: it isn't a bikepacking platform. No downtube storage, limited luggage attachment points, and race geometry mean this machine is happiest moving fast on gravel rather than carrying weight on multi-day routes. But if race day is the goal, Wilier has built one of the most thoughtfully engineered gravel racers available at this price point — a true Italian carbon racer that happens to run wider tires.
