Wilier Rave SLR ID2 GRX Bike w/Alloy Wheels Info
Wilier built the Rave SLR ID2 with one purpose: win on gravel. Not dabble in it, not tolerate it — win. This is a complete ground-up redesign of the original Rave SLR, and where the first generation tried to straddle road and gravel, the ID2 plants its flag squarely in the dirt. Faster, more aerodynamic, more capable on rough terrain, and engineered specifically for the demands of UCI Gravel World Series racing and anyone chasing that same level of performance. At $5,200, the GRX build with Miche Graff XL alloy wheels is your entry point into one of the most purposeful gravel race platforms available today.
A Frame Built in the Wind Tunnel
The Rave SLR ID2 frame starts with Carbon Monocoque HUS MOD construction — the same layup Wilier uses on both the frame and fork — reinforced with Liquid Crystal Polymer in the chainstays for maximum stiffness under power. Wilier's Innovation Lab developed the ID2 using full 3D modelling and CFD analysis, then validated it in actual wind tunnel testing. The result is a claimed 8.9% reduction in aerodynamic drag versus the previous generation — 5.3 watts saved at 35 km/h, which translates to more than 50 seconds over a 70 km race at 350 watts average. On a long gravel day, that margin is real money.
The tube profiles are NACA-section throughout. The downtube is specifically widened and flared — inspired by Wilier's Supersonica SLR TT bike — to shield your water bottles from the wind. The fork blades carry the same broad, aero crown design, while the geometry shifts the ID2 into pure race territory: a 309mm reach and 70.8° head tube angle on a size M give you a fast, confident handling position. Tire clearance opens up to 52mm (versus 42mm on the ID1), so you can run wider rubber for more compliance and traction without sacrificing speed. The frame weighs just 990g; the fork adds 415g. This is a lightweight, aero race machine — it just happens to thrive in the dirt.
GRX 12-Speed Drivetrain — Dialed for Gravel
The GRX build pairs the Rave SLR ID2 frame with Shimano's 12-speed GRX mechanical groupset. Shimano GRX ST-RX610 shifters handle braking and shifting, feeding into an RD-RX822-GS rear derailleur and a 10-45T cassette — a wide-range spread that covers steep climbs and high-speed descents without any front derailleur compromise. The GRX FC-RX610 crankset runs a single 40T chainring; the ID2 is 1x-only by design and makes no apology for it.
Stopping power comes from Shimano GRX BR-RX400 hydraulic disc brakes with 160mm rotors — controlled, modular, and reliable across wet gravel, mud, and dust. The ID2 includes a Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH), which future-proofs the bike for SRAM Full Mount compatibility if you ever want to upgrade the drivetrain. The bottom bracket is a Miche Pressfit 86.5x41 — matched to the bike's race geometry and stiffness goals.
Miche Graff XL Wheels and Vittoria Rubber
The alloy wheel build rolls on Miche Graff XL 700c wheelsets — Miche's purpose-built gravel alloy rim, laced to reliable hubs with 12x100mm front and 12x142mm rear thru-axle standards. Paired with Vittoria Terreno Dry 700x40c tubeless-ready tires, this setup is optimized for hardpack and mixed gravel terrain: fast-rolling on firm surfaces, grippy enough when conditions get loose. Tubeless-ready out of the box means you can go sealant and drop the tubes for fewer flats and better traction on race day.
Wilier fits the GRX alloy build with a Wilier Barra S2 alloy handlebar and Wilier Stemma S2 alloy stem — practical, durable, and easy to replace or customize as you develop your fit. The Wilier Filante Carbon Custom Made seatpost handles the final contact point with a -15mm offset. Saddle is a Selle San Marco Shortfit 2.0 Open-Fit in the Narrow width — a performance saddle that suits long days in a race-forward position.
The ID2 Difference
The "ID2" designation signals a complete redesign, not an iteration. Wilier stripped the original Rave SLR down and rebuilt it with a single mission: pure gravel racing. That meant committing to 1x drivetrains only — no front derailleur mount, no compromises. It meant pushing tire clearance to 52mm to handle the varied terrain of modern gravel racing. And it meant pulling the geometry into a more aggressive, race-specific position rather than maintaining road-gravel versatility for general riding. If you want a bike that does everything adequately, this isn't it. If you want a bike built to be fast on gravel — specifically, aggressively, and without apology — the Rave SLR ID2 delivers.
The aesthetic matches the ambition. Wilier drew inspiration from 1990s rave culture — digital graphics, acid neon, raw energy. Colorways include Pixel Green Matte, Glitch Black, Neon Purple, and Byte Cream Matte, each with a design language that makes the ID2 as visually distinctive as it is technically refined. Available in six sizes: XS through XXL.
