Van Rysel RCR 105 Di2 Bike Info

The Van Rysel RCR 105 Di2 Bike is the company's flagship race platform at this price point — a genuine race bike, not a road bike with racing aesthetics. RCR stands for RaCeR, and the name carries real credentials: this frame is the same platform raced by the Decathlon CMA CGM WorldTour team, developed directly with riders competing in Grand Tours and Monument races. Van Rysel, built within Decathlon's engineering infrastructure in northern France, was designed specifically to close the gap between WorldTour-grade hardware and what a competitive amateur can realistically access. The 105 Di2 build takes that foundation and pairs it with a drivetrain that serious competitors train and race on, along with a standard-issue power meter and tubeless-ready wheels.

The frame story begins in Lille, where Van Rysel's design headquarters and ONERA — The French Aerospace Lab, the research institution that develops aerodynamics for fighter aircraft — sit meters apart. That physical proximity produced a genuine engineering partnership. Van Rysel and ONERA ran Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations and wind tunnel testing to shape every tube cross-section around the wind angles that actually occur during a road race, defined as the -15° to +15° range. The goal was a frame that belongs in what Van Rysel calls the "lightweight aero" category: a design that treats low mass and reduced drag as equal priorities rather than trading one against the other. Topological analysis was applied to remove material where it wasn't needed while preserving stiffness in the zones that carry load. The High Modulus Carbon construction brings the frame to 830 grams painted in size medium, the fork to 380 grams, and the complete system to 7.7 kilograms. Tyre clearance extends to 33 millimeters, offering more versatility than the race geometry might suggest. Available in Smoked Black in sizes XS through XL, with a race-position cockpit spec that scales with the frame.

The drivetrain is Shimano 105 Di2, and it brings fully electronic shifting to this tier without meaningful sacrifice. R7170 brake-shift levers trigger R7150 front and rear derailleurs with the sub-second precision that defines Shimano's electronic lineup. Gearing runs 52/36 up front with an 11-34 cassette across 12 speeds — a range that covers sustained mountain climbs and fast flat-road efforts without a component swap. An integrated power meter ships as part of the crankset, making structured training and race-day power pacing available from the first ride without aftermarket additions. Braking is handled by Shimano 105 R7170 hydraulic disc calipers, with 160mm rotors at the front and 140mm at the rear, delivering consistent, progressive stopping in wet and dry conditions alike.

Wheels are Swiss Side Hadron² Classic 500s — a 50mm deep-section carbon rim that targets the balance between aerodynamic advantage and manageable behavior in crosswinds. The tire selection is Continental GP 5000 S TLR in 700x28C, the tubeless-ready version of one of the most thoroughly tested race tires available. Van Rysel recommends running these tubeless, and the bike ships with the necessary hardware. The cockpit is a coordinated Deda build: the Van Rysel Superbox EVO stem is scaled to each frame size from 80mm in XS to 120mm in XL, paired with the Deda Superzero RS carbon handlebar at widths from 400mm between axles in XS/S up to 440mm in XL. A carbon seatpost with 15mm offset handles saddle positioning. Pedals are not included.

At $4,999, the RCR 105 Di2 sits within a range that extends well above it in price. Van Rysel reserves its highest-grade carbon fiber for the RCR Pro lineup, where the layup is refined to reduce weight and increase stiffness at peak stress points. On this build, the High Modulus Carbon delivers the same ONERA-developed tube shapes and the same race geometry — the distinction is in fiber grade, not engineering intent. For a rider building a training program around power data, preparing for road races, or wanting a WorldTour-proven frame at a price that doesn't require Ultegra or Dura-Ace to justify the spend, the RCR 105 Di2 makes a direct and well-equipped case.

The RA Perspective

The RCR 105 Di2 is one of those bikes that earns credibility the moment you lift it. At this price, the frame weight is genuinely surprising — not in a way that needs caveats, just lighter than you expect a five-thousand-dollar bike to feel. That's the ONERA work showing up in real life.

The ONERA collaboration matters more than it might read on paper. The tube profiles and the way this bike holds its line at speed — particularly descending — reflect actual aerodynamic intention, not the cosmetically-shaped carbon you find on bikes wearing "aero" as a marketing badge. On flat-to-rolling terrain, the RCR returns energy efficiently. You look at your power numbers and realize you're moving faster than the effort suggests.

The 105 Di2 groupset is the honest choice for most riders at this level. It shifts precisely, the power meter comes standard rather than as a paid upgrade, and the Swiss Side Hadron² Classic 500 wheels are a spec we'd expect to see on bikes considerably more expensive. Van Rysel clearly made deliberate choices about where the build budget landed — the wheels and tires are not afterthoughts.

A few honest notes: the saddle is utilitarian and will likely get swapped early. The fit is genuinely race-specific — low stack, relatively long reach — and smaller riders should size carefully. This is not a bike that forgives a lazy position.

For a rider who trains with power, competes on the road, and wants a frame that shares DNA with WorldTour race hardware, the RCR 105 Di2 is a well-assembled answer at a price that doesn't require justification.
