Reynolds Black Label 329 Expert 148mm Wheelset Info
The Reynolds Black Label 329 Expert 148mm Wheelset is a 29-inch carbon trail wheelset from Reynolds' higher-tier Black Label platform, positioned above the brand's entry-level TR series in both construction and price. The Expert build is the more accessible way into Black Label, using a SUNringlé hub instead of the Industry Nine hub found on Reynolds' Pro-level build, while keeping the same asymmetric MR5 carbon rim. At $1,399.99, it's a meaningful step up from a base trail wheelset without reaching Black Label Pro pricing.
The rim is Reynolds' asymmetric, hookless MR5 carbon layup, built 19mm deep with a 32mm internal width, wider than Reynolds' TR-series rims and tuned for the wider, higher-volume tires common on modern 29-inch trail bikes. The asymmetric offset evens out spoke tension between the drive and non-drive sides, adding strength without adding material. Being hookless and tubeless-ready, the rim ships with 30mm tubeless rim tape pre-installed and 45mm valve stems included, ready to mount tubeless tires without extra setup.
Spokes are Sapim CX-Ray, a bladed, aero-profile spoke rather than the round CX Sprint used on Reynolds' TR wheels, laced 28 per wheel in a 3-cross pattern with external alloy nipples. That spoke choice trades a small amount of weight and adds some aero benefit while retaining the vertical compliance riders want on rough trail terrain. The hub is a Reynolds/SUNringlé Super Bubba X unit with 6 pawls and 4 degrees of engagement, quick enough to matter when picking through technical, punchy sections without needing Industry Nine's near-instant pickup. Freehub bodies are available for SRAM XD and Shimano Microspline, and the wheel uses a Centerlock disc mount with 148mm Boost rear spacing.
Complete, the wheelset weighs 1,605 grams, notably lighter than Reynolds' TR-series carbon wheels and light enough to be felt in wheel responsiveness on punchy climbs and technical trail sections where quick direction changes matter. Reynolds builds the rim at its own facility and backs it with a lifetime warranty to the original owner. This is a wheelset for trail riders who've outgrown a stock alloy or entry-level carbon wheel and want a lighter, quicker-accelerating wheel without needing Reynolds' top Black Label Pro build to get there. Reynolds wheels ship sold in pairs, so this listing covers the full front and rear set.
