HED Jet RCD Pro Disc Brake Disc Wheel Info
The HED Jet RCD Pro Disc Brake Disc Wheel is the rear disc option in HED's Jet RC Pro Series, built to bring disc-brake time trial and triathlon performance in at a lower price than the brand's top-tier Jet Black wheels. HED hand-builds it in Roseville, Minnesota, and this disc wheel uses a hybrid construction — an alloy rim wrapped in a carbon aero fairing — that trades a small amount of the weight savings of a full-carbon disc for a real reduction in cost, without giving up the aerodynamic shape that makes a disc wheel worth running in the first place. At $1,300, it's priced to get a genuine race disc wheel onto a triathlon or TT bike that might otherwise skip it.
That hybrid approach comes from HED's Plus rim technology, the wide-rim platform the brand introduced in 2014 and has built its aero lineup around since. The Jet RCD carries a 21mm internal width and 25mm external width, proportions chosen to keep the tire's profile aerodynamically clean rather than ballooning out past the rim's edge, which is where a lot of aero gains get lost on a mismatched wheel and tire combination. Because the rim runs the same width platform as HED's other Jet RC Pro depths, the disc wheel is built to optimize aerodynamics even with the wider tires more riders are running on modern TT and triathlon setups, not just narrow time trial tubulars.
Braking runs through a Centerlock rotor interface paired with thru-axle mounting, giving the wheel the same modulated, consistent stopping power in wet or dry conditions that disc brakes are chosen for in the first place — a meaningful upgrade over a rim brake disc wheel when a time trial or triathlon course includes technical descents or variable weather. HED spins the wheel on its own 545 Disc hub, running stainless steel bearings that keep rolling resistance low without asking for regular maintenance, and this build comes with a Shimano HG freehub body. The rim is tubeless-ready, so it can be run tubed or set up tubeless with an optional valve depending on how a rider wants to balance rolling resistance, comfort, and puncture protection on race day.
HED built its reputation on wheels like this one showing up at the front of races, and the Jet Disc has a résumé that includes time trial wins at the Tour de France and World Championships — the kind of results that come from real aerodynamic testing rather than marketing claims alone. Riders can expect stable handling across a range of wind angles, which matters more on a disc wheel than almost any other wheel type, since a disc presents the most surface area to crosswinds of anything on the bike. HED backs the wheel with a 5-year warranty, in line with the rest of its lineup.
The HED Jet RCD Pro Disc Brake Disc Wheel is built for the triathlete, time trialist, or road racer who wants a disc-brake aero wheel with a genuine race pedigree, without paying for HED's full-carbon flagship to get it. It's a wheel built to be raced, not just looked at.
