Scott Ransom 400 Bike Info
The Scott Ransom 400 Bike brings the Ransom line's full-suspension trail DNA down to a 24-inch wheel platform built specifically for younger riders. Most bikes aimed at this age group compromise on the component spec — watered-down parts in exchange for a lower price point. The Ransom 400 takes a different approach: proper suspension tuned for lighter riders, a legitimate 11-speed drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, and a dropper seatpost. At $1,999.99, it's a real mountain bike, one that won't become a limiting factor before the rider outgrows the frame.
The suspension setup is the first thing worth examining. Up front, X-Fusion provides the Slant RC 26 fork with 140mm of travel and a Kids' Bike Tune — the internals are valved and sprung specifically for a lighter rider weight, not simply scaled down from an adult fork. Out back, the X-Fusion 02Pro R Trunnion shock delivers 130mm of rear travel with rebound adjustment and the same Kids' Bike Tune treatment. The 65.7-degree head tube angle sits in genuinely slack territory, giving the front wheel a planted, confidence-inspiring feel on technical descents that most bikes aimed at this age group simply don't have. The two ends of the suspension work together in a way that doesn't punish mistakes — while still being capable enough to develop real trail skills.
The Syncros Dropper Duncan Remote deserves its own mention. An 80mm travel dropper post with kid-centric tuning, operated remotely from the bar, is uncommon at this price. On the trail it matters: learning to drop the saddle for descents and raise it for climbs is a fundamental skill, and building that habit early translates directly to adult riding. The post has been specifically tuned for lighter riders, so actuation is responsive without requiring adult hand strength to operate.
The 6061 aluminum frame runs 12x148mm boost rear spacing and a Universal Derailleur Hanger. The boost spacing improves lateral stiffness through the drivetrain, and the UDH makes replacing a bent hanger straightforward. Drivetrain duties go to SRAM NX — a trigger shifter paired with the NX rear derailleur, a Prowheel 30T chainring, and a PG-1130 11-speed 11-42 cassette. The wide range handles steep climbs and fast flat sections without compromise. Braking comes from Shimano hydraulic disc brakes: BR-MT410 four-piston calipers with BL-UR405 levers and Shimano RT56 rotors at 180mm front and 160mm rear. These are properly sized for real stopping power in real conditions, not just adequate for dry, smooth surfaces.
The Syncros DP30 wheels carry Kenda Hellkat 24x2.4 folding tires — an aggressive knobby tread designed for loose and mixed terrain. The 580mm riser bar has 9 degrees of backsweep, keeping the hands in a natural position on technical terrain. Geometry for the one-size frame includes a 366.8mm reach, 553.6mm stack, and 597.9mm standover. Bike weight is 29.54 lbs. Pedals are not included. The Ransom 400 is built for young riders who have moved past learner-grade hardware and are spending real time on trails that demand front-rear suspension, reliable braking, and the ability to move the saddle quickly. It's available in Beryl Green.
