Lake CX333-X Shoes Info

The Lake CX333-X brings Lake's flagship CX333 platform to riders who need extra room across the forefoot without giving up race-caliber construction. Built on the CX/TX Race Last in Wide width, it pairs a narrower-profile heel and tighter fit at the back of the foot with meaningful additional width through the toe box — the result is a performance shoe that doesn't force wide-footed riders to compromise on fit or function. The upper is Klite Kangaroo leather, one of the most conforming materials Lake uses, with a plush leather tongue that cushions against the BOA closure system during long efforts.

A significant upgrade over the previous CX332 generation, the CX333 adds a Carbitex arch support panel — a semi-rigid carbon fiber insert that reinforces the midfoot and eliminates the subtle flex that can sap power on sustained climbs. Combined with the heat-moldable internal Thermaform Carbon Fiber heel counter, the CX333-X creates a fit that locks down from heel to arch while the Wide last gives the forefoot the breathing room it needs. Closure is handled by BOA's Li2 dials, the most advanced dial platform in cycling, offering micro-adjustment in both tightening and release directions with resistance to abrasion over thousands of miles.

The outsole is Lake's Race Carbon Fiber Sole with their patented Double Sole construction — a semi-flexible fiberglass inner sole suspended over a rigid carbon outer sole. The inner layer allows the foot to flex slightly at the ball where swelling occurs during long rides, reducing the numbness and hot spots that plague stiffer single-layer carbon soles. The outer platform remains completely rigid for sprint power and sustained climbing efficiency.

Design Benefits

  1. Race Last in Wide — The CX/TX Race Last provides heel lockdown and a performance silhouette while the Wide build adds forefoot volume — giving wide-footed riders the secure fit of a race shoe without the pressure points that come from forcing a narrow last.
  2. Carbitex arch support panel — New to the CX333 generation, the Carbitex panel stiffens the midfoot without adding bulk, improving power transfer through the arch and eliminating the micro-flex that compounds into fatigue over long rides.
  3. Double Sole technology — The suspended fiberglass inner sole addresses one of the persistent problems with full-carbon shoes: forefoot pressure under swelling. The outer carbon platform stays rigid; the inner layer accommodates the foot's natural changes over distance.
  4. BOA Li2 upgrade — The Li2 dial improves on previous BOA generations with bidirectional micro-adjustment and enhanced durability. Dial in your fit on the fly, in either direction, without stopping or loosening the entire closure.

The RA Perspective

The CX333-X is the shoe we recommend when a customer comes in with a wider forefoot and has been told — or assumed — that a performance-oriented fit isn't available to them. The CX/TX Race Last in Wide changes that. The heel geometry is still tight and precise; the extra width is built into the forefoot where it's actually needed. For riders who've been sizing up or making do with a shoe that's just a little too loose at the back to get enough room up front, the CX333-X tends to feel like a revelation.

The CX333 generation made two meaningful changes from the outgoing CX332: the Carbitex arch support panel and the step up to BOA Li2 dials. The arch panel is the subtler upgrade — you don't notice it consciously, but after a few long rides you notice that your foot feels more stable through the midfoot in a way that previous Lake models didn't quite deliver. The Li2 dial is more immediately apparent. It adjusts in both directions, which makes dialing in fit mid-ride far more practical than older BOA hardware.

The Double Sole system carries over from the CX332 and remains one of Lake's most practical engineering decisions. Kangaroo leather on the upper molds gradually to the foot over the first few hundred kilometers — it's worth committing to a few long rides before judging the fit, because the break-in pays off.

At $529.99, the CX333-X sits at the top of Lake's road lineup and competes directly with flagship offerings from Sidi and Shimano. For a wide-footed rider who wants race-shoe performance without custom footbeds or compromises, this is the shoe we'd reach for.
