The Mavic Ellipse Track Wheel - Front is built to be the wheel you reach for every time you roll onto the boards. Mavic designed the Ellipse as the workhorse of its track lineup, sitting below the premium iO and Comète Track models, and that positioning shows up in how it rides: stable, predictable, and ready for repeat sessions without babying it between rounds.

The rim is aluminum, built with Mavic's Maxtal alloy and SUP-welded for a joint that holds its shape under repeated load. At 30mm deep with a 15mm internal width, the profile lands in semi-aero territory — enough rim to smooth out airflow and hold a line through the banking, without tipping into the twitchiness that deeper aero rims can bring on a fixed-gear track bike. Twenty bladed stainless-steel spokes connect the rim to a high-flange aluminum hub, a combination that stiffens the wheel laterally and helps translate sprint effort into forward motion rather than flex.

Inside the hub, Mavic's QRM+ system handles bearing preload automatically, so there's no fiddly cone adjustment to get wrong before a session. Sealed cartridge bearings keep grit and moisture out, which matters on a wheel that's going to see stop-and-go efforts, standing starts, and hours of accumulated laps. The hub is also built to be serviced easily, which counts for more on a track wheel than almost anywhere else — this is equipment meant to be used constantly, not stored.

This front wheel takes a clincher tire, with a 23mm minimum width and a max pressure of 130 psi at that width, plus a combined rider, bike, and equipment weight limit of 264 lbs. Clincher compatibility is part of what makes the Ellipse practical rather than precious — no tubular gluing, no race-day-only mentality. It's a wheel a track cyclist can mount once and ride through a full block of training, scratch races, and everything in between.
