HED Jet TC6 Track Wheelset Info

The HED Jet TC6 Track Wheelset is a purpose-built velodrome wheel, part of HED's Jet Track Series and built around the same 60mm-deep TC6 rim profile HED uses on its road and triathlon wheels. This version, though, drops the rim brake track entirely — it's built for fixed-gear track bikes where the wheel itself is the only spinning part that matters, and there's no caliper to clear. HED hand-builds the Jet Track Series at its factory in Roseville, Minnesota, the same facility that's assembled HED wheels since 1984, and the TC6 depth sits in the middle of the Jet Track lineup between the shallower TC4 (38mm) and the deeper TC9 (90mm).

The rim itself is HED's alloy-with-carbon-fairing construction — an aluminum structure wrapped in a carbon aero shell rather than a full carbon layup, which is how HED keeps the rim stiff and impact-resistant for velodrome use while still getting the aerodynamic benefit of a deep-section shape. The rim is hooked rather than hookless, and HED caps tire pressure at 80 psi max on this wheelset. HED is direct about one limitation: this configuration is not rim-brake compatible, since it skips the brake track entirely — a deliberate tradeoff for a wheel built exclusively for the track rather than a road or trainer setup that might need to stop with a caliper.

HED builds the Jet Track Series around its own Track hub rather than an adapted road hub, using threaded axles rather than thru-axles or quick releases — a 9x1 100mm threaded front axle and a 10x1 120mm threaded rear axle, both running 6001 stainless bearings. The rear hub uses standard single-side fixed cog threading at 1.37"x24tpi, and riders will need to source their own lockring separately, since HED doesn't include one with the wheelset. Despite the rim's black finish, HED ships these wheels with silver hubs, which is worth knowing before assuming an all-black build.

Spokes are Sapim CX-Ray, a bladed J-bend spoke widely used across HED's Jet lineup, laced in a 2-cross pattern rather than radial — a build choice that trades a small amount of aerodynamic cleanliness for a stronger, more durable wheel under the repeated hard accelerations track sprinting and pursuit racing put through a wheel. HED laces and trues every wheelset by hand in its Minnesota assembly room rather than outsourcing the build.

At $1,600.00, the HED Jet TC6 Track Wheelset is built for a rider who's racing or training on the velodrome and wants a deep, aero rim without the added weight and complexity of a road-oriented disc or rim-brake wheel. It ships in a black rim finish with silver hubs, and it's a straightforward choice for a track cyclist who already knows their preferred rim depth and just needs a well-built, US-assembled wheelset to race on.

The RA Perspective

We sell the Jet Track Series to riders who are serious enough about track racing to know exactly which rim depth they want — the TC6's 60mm depth is a common middle-ground choice for riders who don't want the handling quirks of a 90mm TC9 in tight, banked corners but still want more aero benefit than the shallower TC4.

A few things worth telling a customer before they order: the lockring isn't included, so budget for one separately if you don't already have a spare. The threaded 9x1 front and 10x1 rear axles also mean this wheel needs a track-specific hub spanner in your toolkit — it won't work with a standard thru-axle or quick-release skewer setup, which occasionally surprises a rider coming from road or gravel wheels.

HED is also specific that this wheel shouldn't be hung from repair stand hooks or storage racks that grip the rim, since it can damage the carbon fairing in a way that voids the warranty. It's a small thing, but worth mentioning so a customer doesn't store it the way they'd store a normal wheel.

Overall, a reliable, well-built track wheel for a rider who already knows what they're doing on the boards.
