Look 765 Gravel RS Disc Frameset Info
Look Cycle has been making carbon frames in-house since an era when the material was still considered experimental in cycling. That depth of experience matters when you're considering the Look 765 Gravel RS Disc Frameset — a monocoque carbon frameset designed and manufactured by Look in France, built on over thirty years of proprietary carbon expertise developed entirely within their own facilities. The 765 RS sits at the center of Look's gravel lineup as the versatile, do-everything platform: a frame engineered for the three ways gravel riding has developed — racing, ultra-endurance, and multi-day adventure. What gives it credibility across all three is that Look didn't adapt an existing road geometry for rougher surfaces. They developed the 765 from the ground up for mixed terrain, and that distinction runs through the layup, the stays, and the geometry from the first design decision to the last.
The frame uses a gravel-specific monocoque carbon construction built around a fiber blend Look developed exclusively for the 765 RS. The mix — 35% high-modulus carbon, 40% intermediate modulus, 10% high-resistance carbon, and 15% proprietary specific fiber — is oriented ply by ply to put each material's properties where they're most useful. High-modulus carbon concentrates around the bottom bracket and down tube where pedaling forces are highest. Intermediate modulus carries the bulk of the structure. High-resistance carbon adds durability at impact points. The goal, and Look's stated result, is a frame that delivers road bike pedaling efficiency and endurance bike compliance without sacrificing the structural integrity that gravel demands. Hitting that balance in a single carbon layup is harder than it looks, which is why gravel-specific engineering matters here rather than a road frame with wider tire clearance.
The most consequential engineering detail is the 3D Wave Stays. Look shaped the seat stays with two deliberate deflection points — locations in the carbon where controlled flex is designed into the structure rather than out of it. These two points together produce a 15% increase in natural compliance over a conventional straight stay design. The seat tube is also flattened in cross-section rather than kept round, a choice that increases the tube's vertical movement while simultaneously improving its lateral rigidity — the opposite of what a simple reading of the geometry would suggest. In practice, the rear end of the 765 RS actively absorbs vibration from chip-seal, loose gravel, and sustained rough terrain. The compliance is structural and passive, built into the carbon itself, with no elastomers, mechanical pivots, or added weight. On a five-hour mixed ride, the difference between a frame with this kind of engineered compliance and one without it is felt in how you arrive, not just how you ride.
The frame is genuinely designed around wheel and tire versatility rather than tokenistically supporting it. The stock configuration accepts 700x40mm tires — a roughly equal balance of road efficiency and off-road grip. Run 700x28 or 32mm road tires and the 765 RS can rival a dedicated road bike at pace, running at 4 to 6 bar pressure. Mount 650B wheels with tires up to 54mm wide and the balance shifts toward all-terrain handling, where the frame's slack 70.3° head tube angle and consistent 420mm chainstay length work together to deliver the stability that technical terrain demands. The geometry is designed to support both setups without feeling compromised in either direction — which is a harder engineering problem than simply offering the clearance. Four bottle cage mounts are built into the frame for legitimate multi-day use. The 27.2mm seatpost diameter is narrower than most modern gravel frames, which allows the post itself to act as a secondary compliance filter; wider-diameter posts simply can't flex the same way.
The included Look 765 Gravel carbon fork is built and matched to the frame, accepting a 12x100mm thru-axle up front with 12x142mm at the rear. The frame accepts a BB386 bottom bracket and a braze-on front derailleur for 2x drivetrain builds. Look backs the frame with a lifetime warranty. Available in the Chromatic Petrol finish — one of Look's iridescent paint effects that reads differently depending on light angle — across sizes XS through XL. For anyone building a single bike to cover road days, gravel races, and loaded multi-day routes, the 765 RS is a rare frameset that's actually engineered for all of those purposes rather than built around one and compromised toward the rest.
