3T Ultra 2 Italia GRX Bike Info

The 3T Ultra 2 Italia GRX Bike is the entry point into 3T's Made in Italy gravel platform — the same FUSION CARBON frame, the same 3T Superghiaia Integrale LTD cockpit, and the same Fango Ultra 2 fork as the rest of the Ultra 2 Italia range, paired with mechanical Shimano GRX shifting. For riders who want Italian carbon construction and don't want to pay the premium for electronic groupset, this is the version that makes the most sense. The frame uses 3T's proprietary FUSION CARBON process: filament winding, Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM), and conventional carbon layup, each applied where it contributes most to the structure. It's built at 3T's Italian factory — 3T (Tecnologia Tubi Torino) has been making components for the professional peloton since 1961 — and Made in Italy is the core argument of the Ultra 2 platform, not a secondary marketing note.

The geometry and tire clearance are identical to the rest of the Ultra 2 range. The frame clears up to 57mm of tire width as measured, and the platform was designed around that capacity from the beginning rather than retrofitted to accept wider rubber. Chainstays hold at 437mm across all sizes, and head tube angles range from 69° on the S to 72° on the XL — the slacker geometry on smaller sizes produces a more composed, confidence-inspiring front end on technical terrain without making the bike feel slow to respond on faster surfaces. Stack runs from 560mm (S) to 620mm (XL), reach from 360mm to 384mm.

3T Superghiaia Integrale LTD Cockpit

The cockpit is the same 3T Superghiaia Integrale LTD that appears across the Ultra 2 Italia lineup — 3T's top-tier integrated gravel bar, with internal cable routing through the stem. The drops flare from 40cm at the hoods to 47.8cm at the drops (S/M) and 42cm to 49.9cm (L/XL), giving your hands a wide, stable platform when the terrain gets rough and you need control in the drops. Reach is 77mm and drop is 110mm — a compact, approachable profile. The 3T More 2 stem is sized with the frame, running from 80mm on the S to 110mm on the XL. Worth noting: on a mechanical groupset, internal routing through an integrated cockpit requires some patience during cable installation and service, but the riding experience is clean.

Shimano GRX 1x12 Mechanical

The drivetrain is Shimano GRX 1x12 — cable-actuated mechanical shifting throughout. The RX610 levers control the RX822 rear derailleur, running a 40T chainring up front against a Shimano Deore M6100 12-speed 10-51T cassette in back. The wide-range MTB cassette is a deliberate 3T choice: a gravel-specific front ring paired with an MTB rear gives you genuine climbing range without a front derailleur, covering steep extended ascents as well as open fireroads. Mechanical GRX is reliable, field-serviceable with standard tools, and doesn't depend on a battery charge. The tradeoff versus Di2 is less precise actuation feel and the need for cable tension adjustment over time — both of which are manageable at any service interval. Brakes are Shimano GRX RX400 hydraulic disc, running 160mm Shimano RT64 rotors front and rear.

Wheels and Finishing Kit

The wheelset is Fulcrum Lite GR — Fulcrum's gravel-specific alloy rim, tubeless compatible, matched to the platform's wide-tire ethos. Tires are Continental (specific model varies by configuration — confirm with your RA Cycles sales associate). The saddle is a Fizik Vento Argo X5 at 140mm width, and the seatpost is a 3T Carbon round post at 27.2mm diameter with zero offset. 3T's carbon side-load bottle cage is included on the right side, with 3T Prendo Tough bar tape wrapping the Superghiaia bars. The Ultra 2 Italia GRX is available in four colorways — Bamboo, Avorio, Glicine, and Lavico — in sizes S through XL.

The RA Perspective

The Ultra 2 Italia GRX makes the most straightforward case for the platform: if the frame and cockpit are what you're buying, the mechanical drivetrain is the efficient way to get there. The FUSION CARBON frame and Superghiaia Integrale LTD handlebar are identical to the Di2 version. You're not getting a downgraded bike — you're getting the same Italian carbon construction with a different shifting mechanism, at $1,100 less.

Mechanical GRX is underrated at this price point. The RX610 groupset shifts cleanly, the hydraulic brakes are the same fundamental technology, and the 10-51T Deore cassette gives you the same range as the XT cassette on the Di2 version. The Deore is a step down in materials, but for most riding the difference is imperceptible. What mechanical shifting does require is attention: cables stretch, tension drifts, and an integrated cockpit takes more time to service than an external-routing setup. If you ride heavily and wrench your own bike, factor that in.

The 57mm tire clearance on this frame is genuine. We've seen gravel bikes advertise wide clearance and deliver it poorly — mud packing, tight tolerances, frame rub under load. The Ultra 2 was designed for it, and the clearance is clean. Run a 45mm tire for faster conditions or push it wider for technical terrain.

At $5,899 with Made in Italy carbon and a top-tier integrated cockpit, the Ultra 2 Italia GRX is priced in a way that makes sense for riders who want the frame as the long-term investment and plan to upgrade the drivetrain later if needed. It's a legitimate starting point rather than a compromise.
