HED Jet 4 Plus Disc Brake Tubeless Wheelset Info
The HED Jet 4 Plus Disc Brake Tubeless Wheelset sits at a depth HED calls its aerodynamic sweet spot — 46mm, deep enough for a real aero advantage but shallow enough to stay composed in real-world crosswinds. HED built the Jet 4 Plus to work across a wide range of racing and riding: triathlon, time trial, criterium, and everyday road riding all fall within what this wheelset is designed to handle well, rather than optimizing narrowly for one discipline.
The rim uses HED's alloy spine and carbon fiber fairing construction, a hybrid design that traces back to how HED originally addressed carbon rims' historically weak braking by pairing an alloy structural core with a carbon aero shell. On this disc brake version, rim braking is out of the equation entirely, so the alloy spine's job shifts to structural durability and ride quality rather than braking surface — while the carbon fairing keeps shaping the aerodynamic profile. That combination gives the Jet 4 Plus a level of durability that a full carbon aero rim doesn't always offer, without giving up the aero shaping that makes a deep-section wheel worth choosing in the first place.
HED's Stability Control Technology is built into the rim shape specifically to manage the handling tradeoff that comes with aero depth. SCT reduces the lateral forces a rim experiences between 0 and 15 degrees of wind yaw — the range where real-world gusts and passing traffic actually hit a rider — so the wheel holds a more predictable line in crosswinds than a wheel chasing pure aero numbers without that consideration. It won't handle quite as neutrally as a shallow box-section alloy wheel, but it avoids getting pushed around the way a deep, unshaped aero profile can.
The C2 rim shape carries a 25mm external width and 21mm internal width, wider than older aero rim standards, which increases tire volume and contact patch for lower rolling resistance and more cornering grip. That wider tire profile also lets a rider run lower tire pressure without sacrificing efficiency, and it smooths the airflow transition from tire to rim for a bit less drag on top of the aero gains from the rim depth itself. The wheelset is built for disc brakes with a Centerlock rotor interface and thru-axle compatibility, which adds stiffness for hard accelerations and fast cornering compared to a quick-release setup. Rotors are not included.
The complete wheelset weighs 1,743 grams (828 grams front, 915 grams rear), laced with bladed steel spokes — 18 in the front wheel and 24 in the rear, a count that reflects the different structural demands on each end of the bike. For a rider who wants one aero wheelset that performs across triathlon, time trial, criterium, and standard road racing without needing a separate wheel for each discipline, the Jet 4 Plus offers a genuinely versatile depth and construction at a price below many single-purpose race wheels.
