Corima WS1 47mm Track Clincher Wheel Front Info
Corima WS1 47mm Track Clincher Wheel Front is sold individually as a front wheel, built for track riders who put in serious volume on the velodrome and don't want to burn hours on a race-day tubular wheelset. Corima has been building carbon wheels by hand in Loriol-sur-Drôme, France for more than 30 years, and the WS1 line is specifically the company's training range — a wheel meant to survive daily laps rather than sit reserved for competition day.
The rim is carbon, 47mm deep, with a 26mm width — a moderate depth that Corima positions as the sweet spot between aerodynamic benefit and everyday rideability for track training. Unlike Corima's race-focused tubular wheels, the WS1 is a clincher, built to run standard track tires with inner tubes. That's a deliberate trade for a training wheel: clincher setup and teardown is faster and cheaper than gluing tubulars, which matters when you're changing tires far more often on a training wheel than a wheel that only comes out for competition. Worth noting directly — this rim doesn't support tubeless conversion kits, so it's tube-and-tire only.
Corima builds the rim with a 3K carbon weave finish, laced to 24 spokes, and the front wheel comes in at approximately 850 grams — light enough that it doesn't feel like a compromise next to a tubular race wheel, even with the added durability a clincher rim needs at the bead. For a rider doing structured intervals or long endurance days on the boards, that combination of low weight and clincher practicality adds up over a training block in a way a fragile, race-only wheel doesn't.
Since this is a track wheel, it skips the derailleur hardware and disc rotor mounts you'd find on a road or gravel wheel entirely — track bikes run fixed gear, with no freewheel and typically no brakes on velodrome-specific setups. The front hub uses a solid 9mm axle at 100mm spacing, the standard track fork fitment, and mounts with axle nuts rather than a thru-axle or quick release, consistent with how track forks are built. It's a simple, proven interface that's changed very little over decades of track racing because it doesn't need to.
This front wheel makes the most sense for a track racer or serious velodrome regular who already has — or is building — a matching rear wheel, and wants a genuine carbon training wheel from a manufacturer with real pedigree in the discipline rather than a generic alloy training wheel. It's a sensible way to get real carbon performance into daily training miles while keeping a race-day tubular set fresh for competition.
