Colnago C68 Rossa Limited Edition Bike Info
The Colnago C68 Rossa Limited Edition Bike is one of 90 numbered road bikes produced in the world — the official machine of La Vuelta 2025, and Colnago’s most elaborately realized expression of what happens when Italian craftsmanship and Spanish racing culture are brought together without compromise. The C68 platform is Colnago’s flagship road bike, built at the brand’s factory in Cambiago, Italy, and the Rossa takes that foundation and applies a level of hand-finishing that places it firmly in collector’s territory. This is not a bike that arrived at its price through component accumulation alone. It arrived there through decisions made by hand, one at a time, in a town north of Milan where Colnago has been building frames since 1954.
The frame is constructed from eight individual carbon parts — Colnago’s modular approach that allows precise control over layup, finish, and proportion at each section of the bike. In size 54, the frame weighs approximately 820g; the carbon fork, with its integrated cable routing and 1-1/8” steerer, adds roughly 360g. The headset uses CeramicSpeed SLT treated bearings — a deliberate choice that extends smoothness across thousands of kilometers without requiring routine service. The finish itself is Candy Red (Rossa), applied in depth, then layered with hand-applied silver metal leaf that catches light differently at every angle. Decorating the frame is Colnago’s signature rhombus motif, in this instance drawn from the floor of Turin’s Galleria Grande. On the bolts: bull details, a nod to Spanish identity. The fork is engraved with the bike’s individual serial number. Every unit ships with a commemorative volume documenting the collaboration.
The specification was assembled with the same intentionality as the finish. Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 R9250/R9270 handles the shifting and braking — 12-speed wireless electronic, hydraulic disc, the same groupset that wins races on the WorldTour. The rear derailleur is fitted with a CeramicSpeed Oversize Pulley Wheel System in a limited-edition Colnago x La Vuelta configuration. The chainrings are Carbon-Ti, custom 52-36T, also a La Vuelta special edition. The rotors are Carbon-Ti X-Rotor SteelCarbon 3 — a carbon and steel composite construction that reduces unsprung rotational weight at 160mm front and 140mm rear. The wheels are ENVE SES 4.5, hand-spoked in Italy for this edition with Colnago x La Vuelta graphics. The cockpit is Colnago’s CC.01 integrated bar and stem unit, marked with La Vuelta branding. The saddle is a Prologo Nago R4 in La Vuelta special edition trim. The bottle cages are 3D-printed replicas of the La Vuelta trophy.
Design Benefits
- 8-Part Modular Carbon Frame, Made in Italy: Colnago’s modular construction gives the factory control over each section of the frame independently — layup, finish, and geometry are tuned at every junction rather than compromised across a single mold. The result is a frame that rides with the refined balance of stiffness and compliance that has made the C68 Colnago’s most accomplished road platform, at approximately 820g in size 54.
- Hand-Applied Silver Metal Leaf on Candy Red: The Rossa finish begins with Colnago’s deep Candy Red base and is accented with silver metal leaf applied by hand. The effect shifts with light and angle in a way no decal or printed finish can replicate. The rhombus motif from Turin’s Galleria Grande and bull details on the bolts are not stickers — they are part of the paint process.
- CeramicSpeed Throughout: CeramicSpeed SLT treated bearings in the headset and the brand’s Oversize Pulley Wheel System on the rear derailleur represent Colnago’s approach to this edition: every component that can be refined, is. The OSPW reduces drivetrain friction and the SLT bearings extend service intervals without sacrificing feel.
- Carbon-Ti Chainrings and Rotors: Carbon-Ti’s custom 52-36T chainrings for this edition and the X-Rotor SteelCarbon 3 rotors reduce rotational weight at each end of the drivetrain. The SteelCarbon 3 rotor construction — combining carbon fiber with a steel braking surface — is a technically advanced solution that would stand out even on a bike half this price.
- ENVE SES 4.5, Hand-Spoked in Italy: ENVE’s SES 4.5 is a benchmark aero road wheelset. For the Rossa, each pair is hand-spoked at Colnago’s facility in Italy, then finished with Colnago x La Vuelta graphics. The involvement of Italian hands in the wheel build matches the standard of care applied to every other element of this bike.
Final Take
The Colnago C68 Rossa is numbered for a reason. At 90 units, it will not be restocked, and the combination of provenance — official La Vuelta 2025 bike, handmade in Cambiago, commemorated with a book — with a component specification that includes CeramicSpeed, Carbon-Ti, ENVE SES 4.5, and full Dura-Ace Di2 makes it one of the most comprehensively realized limited edition road bikes produced in recent memory. It rides as well as it looks, which is saying something.
