Cipollini NK1K Disc Frameset Info
The Cipollini NK1K Disc Frameset is a high-modulus Italian carbon frame for riders who want to build up a race-grade aero road bike from the ground up. Cipollini — the brand named after legendary Italian sprinter Mario Cipollini — remains one of the few bicycle manufacturers still producing entirely in Italy, and the NK1K is built to reflect that. The frame uses Torayca T1000 high-modulus carbon in a monocoque construction with a 1K weave finish, combining the material grade found at the top of WorldTour racing with the visual refinement that Italian frame building is known for. Seven sizes from XXS through XXL cover a wide range of riders, and three colorways — Cobalt Blue/Anthracite Matte, Carbon/Red/Grey, and Silver/Carbon — give builders options that few frames at any price offer.
T1000 carbon is among the highest-modulus fiber grades available for bicycle frames — stiffer and lighter per unit than the T700 and T800 variants found at lower price points. In a monocoque construction, the main triangle is laid up and cured as a single unit rather than bonded at the joints, which maximizes stiffness-to-weight and eliminates potential weak points under hard load. The 1K finish is the visible result of Cipollini's layup process: 1K carbon fiber uses 1,000 filaments per tow, producing a finer, tighter weave pattern than the 3K or 12K alternatives used on most production frames. Working with 1K carbon requires more time and precision than larger-tow fiber, which is part of why few manufacturers use it — and the result is a surface that reflects the quality of the engineering underneath.
The NK1K Disc is designed for aerodynamic speed. The fork crown integrates into a notch in the down tube, eliminating the gap between fork and frame and reducing drag at the leading edge of the bike. The down tube is shaped to sit close to the front wheel, and the seat tube is profiled to closely follow the rear wheel — both deliberate choices that reduce frontal area without adding material or weight. These aero shapes are paired with geometry that accounts for sustained riding: the head tube is taller relative to many pure race frames, providing a more accessible position for riders who spend extended time in the saddle. Slender seat stays manage high-frequency road vibration, and the NK1K Carbon seatpost offers 0mm to 18mm of adjustable offset, giving builders additional fit flexibility beyond what the frame geometry provides on its own.
The NK1K Disc is built to current disc brake standards throughout. Flat-mount calipers and thru-axles at both ends are the spec, and the frame accepts tires up to 30mm wide — practical clearance for a race-oriented frame that doesn't confine the rider to narrow rubber. The bottom bracket shell is BB86 pressfit (46x86.5mm), a widely supported standard that accepts cranks from Shimano, SRAM, and Campagnolo with the appropriate cups. The front derailleur uses a braze-on mount. These are established, well-supported standards across the industry — builders aren't locked into any particular component family, and the frame accommodates a wide range of drivetrain configurations from entry-level to top-tier.
At $5,990, the NK1K Disc offers a WorldTour-grade carbon frame with Italian manufacture and a level of finish that's difficult to find at this price. Cipollini remains one of the small number of brands that still builds in Italy, and the NK1K reflects it: the layup quality, tube shaping, and paint are consistent with a frame built in a facility where finishing is part of the product, not an afterthought. For a rider who knows their component preferences — or who wants to carry over a groupset from a previous build — the NK1K Disc is a starting point that doesn't compromise anywhere in the process. Three distinct colorways, a full seven-size run from XXS to XXL, and a frame that's ready for whatever you bring to it.
