Cipollini MCM Disc Frameset Info

The Cipollini MCM Disc Frameset is Cipollini's rider-focused road platform — a T800 carbon frame built for performance across a full six-size range, from XS through XXL, with a geometry system designed to let every rider find a precise fit. MCM stands for Mario Cipollini Custom, a name that signals the frame's emphasis on adaptability: this is a road frameset built to serve riders across a wide spectrum of sizes and positions, not just the narrow middle of the bell curve.

The frame uses T800 carbon fiber with what Cipollini calls T2T (Tube to Tube) construction and a 1K finish. T800 is a high-modulus, high-tensile fiber that sits well above standard carbon grades in both stiffness and strength relative to weight. The T2T construction method connects individual carbon tubes in a way that allows Cipollini to vary the tube geometry — dimensions and angles — for each size, rather than scaling a single shape up and down. The result is a frame that is built to feel consistent across the range rather than stiff and twitchy at the small end and vague at the large. Large-section tubes and a straight 1 1/2" tapered head tube at both ends stiffen the front triangle substantially, giving the frame a direct, snappy feel under hard efforts and out-of-the-saddle acceleration.

Geometry and Fit

The MCM's geometry customization extends to the seatpost interface. The seat tube uses a ghost clamp design with an adjustable rail that can be raised or lowered to dial in seatpost height and retention independently of the frame geometry — a thoughtful detail for riders at the edges of a size who might otherwise split the difference badly. Internal cable routing keeps the lines hidden throughout the frame for a clean look and easier long-term management. The frameset is ready for flat-mount disc brakes, providing strong and modular braking across conditions, and uses a braze-on front derailleur mount for 2x compatibility. Bottom bracket is BB86 press-fit with an 86.5x41mm shell — a wide, stiff interface that transfers power efficiently into the chainstays.

Geometry across the six sizes spans stack from 507mm (XS) to 589mm (XXL) and reach from 367mm to 405mm. Chainstay length holds at 405mm across all sizes, keeping the rear-end handling feel consistent regardless of frame size. Head tube angles progress from 70.8° at XS to 73.5° at XXL, giving smaller sizes a more forgiving front end while larger sizes get the quicker steering that taller riders tend to prefer. Seat tube angles range from 74.8° at XS down to 72.5° at XXL.

Build and Character

The MCM Disc ships as a frameset that includes the Cipollini MCM carbon fork and carbon seatpost alongside the frame. The fork is purpose-matched to the frame's stiffness character — sized and tapered to preserve the front-end feel the geometry is designed around. Three colorways are available at RA Cycles: Carbon/Black/Silver Matte, Blue/Red/White, and Red/Carbon/White Shiny.

At $4,490, the MCM Disc sits at a price point that makes serious Italian carbon accessible without the premium of Cipollini's top-tier race machines. It is a platform for riders who want a performance road frameset with genuine size range and a well-considered fit system — particularly useful for riders at the extreme ends of sizing who have struggled to find a frame that fits correctly off the shelf.

The RA Perspective

The MCM is Cipollini's answer to a question that most carbon road framesets don't take seriously: what about riders who don't fit in the middle of the size range? Six sizes from XS to XXL, with size-specific tube geometry rather than simple scaling, makes this one of the more thoughtful fit platforms in Italian carbon at this price.

The T800 construction is genuinely stiff. This is not a compliant, all-day endurance frame — the large tubes and 1 1/2" head tube make their presence felt. Under hard accelerations and sprint efforts, the front triangle responds directly and without any vagueness. Riders who like a lively, road-race feel will appreciate it; riders looking for something that smooths out rough roads will want to pair it with a more compliant seatpost and good tires.

The T2T size-specific geometry is the differentiator here. The ghost clamp seatpost interface is a small detail that matters at the extremes — particularly for shorter riders in XS where the margin for error on fit is small. We've built a few MCMs for riders who had struggled to fit other Italian carbon frames, and the XS and S sizes have been notably better than most.

The flat-mount disc version updates the original MCM's braking platform without changing the frame's core character. For a training bike, race-day machine, or the frame at the center of a custom build, the MCM Disc is a strong choice at this price in Italian carbon. Pair it with a quality groupset and wheels and you have a serious road bike for considerably less than the flagship RB1K or ITACA.
