Cervelo Aspero-5 Red AXS 1 Bike Info
Cervelo Aspero-5 Red AXS 1 Bike is Cervélo's top-tier build on its redesigned Áspero-5 gravel bike, specced with a full SRAM Red AXS mullet drivetrain. At $12,650, it sits at the top of the Áspero-5 range, and Cervélo built this generation specifically for gravel racing rather than casual dirt-road riding.
Cervélo describes the new Áspero-5 as the most aerodynamic gravel bike it has built, drawing on the aero development the brand has applied to its road bikes for decades. Cervélo says this generation is 37 watts faster than the outgoing Áspero and 34 watts faster than its nearest competitor, with the aero handlebar and stem alone accounting for nearly 6 watts of that savings. Whatever the exact number on a given day, the intent is clear in the shaping: the front end, cockpit, and tube profiles are all cut for speed on open, fast gravel roads, not just styled to look aggressive.
That speed focus doesn't come at the expense of usability on race day. The frame clears up to 45mm tires, well into the range gravel racers actually run on rough terrain, and this build ships with 42mm Vittoria Corsa Pro Control tubeless tires already mounted. Cervélo also built in downtube and top tube storage, and this build comes with Cervélo's in-frame storage rolls for a flat kit and spare tube, plus a Smartpak top tube bag, front and rear accessory mounts, and two Arundel Mandible carbon bottle cages. The bottom bracket is a threaded T47 design rather than a press-fit unit, a detail gravel riders who've dealt with creaking press-fit bottom brackets on rough terrain will appreciate. Cervélo's stated goal with this build is a bike that's ready to race the moment it leaves the shop, and the combination of tire clearance, storage, and race-ready gearing backs that up.
The drivetrain is where this build gets interesting: it's a mullet setup, pairing SRAM Red AXS E1 shifters and hydraulic disc brakes with a single 48T aero-shaped chainring and SRAM's XX SL Eagle AXS T-Type mountain bike rear derailleur. That derailleur runs a wide-range 10-52 cassette, giving this Áspero-5 far more low-end climbing gear than a standard 2x road cassette while still holding a usable top gear for fast, flat gravel sectors. The crank carries a built-in power meter and mounts to a ceramic DUB WIDE bottom bracket. Reserve 48/53 GR wheels, built specifically for gravel and mounted on DT Swiss 240 hubs, complete the rolling stock, and a Fizik Vento Argo X1 saddle finishes out the build.
Cervélo points to results as validation for this platform: the Áspero-5 made its race debut under Marianne Vos at the UCI Gravel World Championships, where she won wearing the rainbow jersey, and Cervélo continues to race this platform with some of the sport's top gravel racers. This build is available in Five Black across six frame sizes from 48cm to 61cm. For a rider training for or racing long, fast gravel events, where climbing gears and flat-out speed both matter, the Áspero-5 Red AXS 1 is built around exactly that demand.
