Scott Addict RC 20 Bike Info

The Scott Addict RC 20 Bike represents Scott's current generation of their lightweight road race platform — a ground-up redesign that trims significant weight from an already-light frameset while bringing the Addict RC fully into the era of electronic shifting, wide tires, and integrated aerodynamics. Built around HMX carbon fiber with climbing at the center of its design intent, the Addict RC is UCI-approved, tubeless-ready, and precise enough to reward the kind of riding where every gram and every watt matters. The RC 20 is the second build in the lineup: the same HMX carbon frame shared across four of the five complete models, paired with a full Shimano Ultegra Di2 groupset and 40mm deep carbon wheels.

The redesigned HMX carbon frame draws on a manufacturing process borrowed from Scott's lightweight mountain bike construction — inflatable polypropylene inserts that allow for accurate placement of carbon fiber within the mold, eliminating excess resin and reducing weight without changing the stiffness profile. Scott claims 650g for an unpainted size M frame, and the careful material placement shows in where the bike is stiff and where it gives. The structural load path between the head tube, bottom bracket, and rear axle is deliberately rigid, while the seatstays and top tube are trimmed accordingly — the dropped seatstay profile adds a measure of vertical compliance and contributes a cleaner rear triangle profile that draws from lessons developed on Scott's Foil and Plasma platforms. Up front, the narrowed head tube is made possible by a 27.2mm eccentric steerer fork and fully internal cable routing through the headset — a combination Scott credits with a 10% reduction in frontal area compared to the previous generation. Wider fork legs smooth airflow over 30mm and wider tires without adding drag.

The Addict RC's geometry was intentionally updated for this generation to run slightly more aggressive than its predecessor — a deliberate response to the heavier, more inert feel of wider tires at speed. Short 410mm chainstays are uniform across all seven sizes, keeping the bike quick under hard accelerations. Head tube angles range from 71.3° in XXS to 73.8° in XXL, and reach runs from 379mm in XXS to 411mm in XXL — numbers that feel compact and direct, especially compared to endurance road bikes at the same price. Scott's engineers also ensured stability held at speed and in crosswinds, which matters on a bike this light. Tire clearance runs to 700x34, and the RC 20 ships standard with 700x30 Schwalbe One tubeless tires — the width that the majority of road racers, including at the WorldTour level, now treat as the default.

The RC 20 spec pairs the HMX carbon frame with a full Shimano Ultegra Di2 R8170 groupset throughout. Front and rear derailleurs are Ultegra Di2 R8150, operated through Ultegra Di2 R8170 hydraulic disc brake levers that integrate shifting and braking in Shimano's clean single-unit design. The Ultegra R8100 crankset runs 52/36 chainrings on a Shimano press-fit bottom bracket, and the 12-speed Ultegra R8101 cassette spans 11-34 — enough range for aggressive climbs without sacrificing top-end speed on flat stages. Rotors are Shimano CL800, 160mm front and 140mm rear. The Syncros Capital 1.0 40 carbon wheels are 40mm deep, tubeless-compatible, and suited to both climbing days and faster mixed-terrain rides. The cockpit is a Syncros alloy stem paired with a carbon handlebar (HB-R100-CF), with bar widths scaled by frame size from 36cm in XXS to 42cm in XXL. A Syncros carbon seatpost (SP-R101-CF) keeps the rear end light and adds road compliance, while the Syncros Belcarra Regular saddle completes the build.

The Addict RC 20 is a genuine race bike at a price that doesn't demand the top-tier HMX-SL carbon to justify. The HMX frame carries the same design intent, the same manufacturing process, and the same geometry as the upper-tier variants — the difference is in material weight at the frameset level, not in how the bike rides or handles. At $5,999 with Ultegra Di2 and 40mm carbon wheels, it's one of the more complete electronic road bike packages at this price point. It's built for riders who prioritize climbing performance, responsive handling, and precise electronic shifting — and who want a race platform with enough tire clearance to run 30mm tubeless tires as a daily setup.

The RA Perspective

The Addict RC has been Scott's climbing race bike for over 15 years, and this generation is a meaningful step forward. The manufacturing change — using polypropylene inserts to control resin distribution more precisely inside the mold — might sound like a process detail, but the result is a noticeably lighter frameset without the usual trade-offs. You're not shaving grams by thinning walls or skipping structural elements; you're just eliminating material that was never doing useful work.

What stands out to us on the RC 20 specifically is the value of the complete package. The HMX carbon frame is the same geometry and platform as the HMX-SL variant — you're getting the same bike, just slightly more material in the layup. At $5,999 with Ultegra Di2 and a set of 40mm carbon Syncros Capital wheels, you're getting a full electronic drivetrain and carbon wheels at a price point where a lot of competitors are still speccing alloy hoops or mechanical groupsets.

The 30mm Schwalbe One tires are the right call here — tubeless-ready, fast-rolling, and in line with where road racing has landed on optimal tire width. The 34mm clearance gives you flexibility down the road without the bike being designed around that use.

One thing to be clear-eyed about: this is a race bike. The geometry is aggressive, the chainstays are short, and the cockpit is sized for a performance fit. Riders coming from an endurance geometry should factor in a proper fit before committing. For the right rider — someone chasing climbs, crits, or fast group rides — it's one of the better lightweight road bikes available at this price.
