Garmin Forerunner 170 Music Smartwatch Info
The Garmin Forerunner 170 Music Smartwatch is built as a running watch first, but its sensor set and 80-plus sport profiles make it a genuinely useful GPS smartwatch for riders who train across disciplines. A 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen with an optional always-on mode sits inside a 41-gram case, and triple-frequency GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo) keeps position tracking accurate whether you're on a run, a trainer session, or logging a ride.
Training data is where the Forerunner 170 Music earns its price. Garmin Coach builds adaptive plans around your recovery and Training Readiness score, HRV Status tracks recovery overnight, and Body Battery gives a running read on your energy levels through the day. On the bike, the watch picks up dedicated cycling profiles — road, mountain, gravel, indoor, and e-bike among them — and pairs with Garmin's Vector and Rally power meters and Varia radar and lights when you want deeper ride data than GPS alone provides. Basic speed and distance work out of the box; the more granular cycling metrics need a compatible sensor or power meter to unlock.
Battery life runs up to 10 days in smartwatch mode or 20 hours with GPS running continuously, and the Music edition adds 4GB of onboard storage for downloaded Spotify, Amazon Music, or Deezer playlists, so a phone isn't required to have music on a ride or run. Garmin Pay handles contactless payments from the wrist, and the case is rated to 5 ATM, so sweat and rain aren't a concern. It's available in four colorways, each pairing a case finish with a matching quick-release 20mm band.
