The glass fiber-reinforced nylon midsole provides enough stiffness to translate pedaling effort into forward motion without the rigidity that makes pure road or XC shoes punishing to walk in. The Shimano Pedal Channel runs along the central outsole — a recessed zone that guides the cleat into position and maintains positive shoe-to-pedal contact while clipped in. Surrounding the channel, shallow closely-packed rubber tread provides grip on the pedal when you're not clipped in, and the heel and toe zones carry more aggressive rubber for traction on roots, rocks, and loose terrain when you're pushing the bike uphill or navigating technical dismounts.
The synthetic leather upper includes perforated zones for airflow on longer climbs, and the asymmetrically raised padded ankle collar adds protection without restricting mobility. The reinforced toe cap handles the inevitable rock strikes and pedal strikes that come with trail riding.
