Most saddle designs work around pressure — padding it, redistributing it, cutting around it. Selle SMP Saddles take a different approach: eliminate the pressure point entirely. The brand's signature deep central channel and down-turned “Eagle Beak” nose are designed so that no part of the saddle contacts the perineal and vascular structures at all — a design philosophy the Padua-based company has been refining since 1947.

About Selle SMP

Selle SMP was founded in 1947 by Martino Schiavon in Padua, Italy — inspired by the road racing exploits of Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali. The longest continuously-run saddle company in Italy, it’s now led by the founder’s sons Franco and Maurizio. The pivot to performance aftermarket saddles came in 2004, introducing a design that set SMP apart: a deep central channel running the full saddle length, a curved profile, and the down-turned “Eagle Beak” nose. The channel doesn’t redistribute perineal pressure — it eliminates contact with the vascular and nerve structures entirely. Every saddle is 100% handmade in their Padua factory. RA Cycles stocks the complete Selle SMP handmade lineup. The Full Carbon and Full Carbon Lite sit at the top at $749 — the lightest builds with a full carbon shell and rails. The EVO 3D series applies 3D-molded padding to the signature curved channel profile, available in carbon ($689) or stainless rails. Below that, the EVO 30C, EVO 20C, Forma, Lite 209, and F30C cover the mid-range from $449. The collection also includes Selle Italia saddles — the SLR Boost Superflow, SLR 3D, Flite Tekno, and Novus Boost EVO — for riders who prefer a more traditional profile with Italian craftsmanship.
