The Cervélo R5-CX was initially created in December of 2021 to give the world class Jumbo-Visma team a cyclocross bike worthy of their performance. Input was taken from Wout Van Aert and Marianne Vos to create the perfect cyclocross machine. Between the two of them, they have racked up 13 wins aboard the R5-CX. Now, this cutting-edge machine is finally available to the general public. As the first cross bike made by Cervélo since 2007, the R5-CX is a modern machine with huge aspirations.
As its name suggests, the Cervélo R5-CX takes a lot of inspiration from the R5 with some key adjustments. The bottom bracket is about 11mm higher than on the road oriented R5. This helps speed up handling, a must for a cross bike, and also helps it clear obstacles. The bottom bracket is also threaded into the frame in a T47-sized hole and keeps the asymmetric cups of BBRight. This design is unique to Cervélo but still uses standard inboard and outboard T47 cups. Thanks to the input from Van Aert and Vos, the fit and handling of the R5-CX are entirely unique and effective on cyclocross terrain.
Every piece of the frame is engineered to deal with difficult conditions. A D-shaped seatpost adds compliance and also keeps the saddle facing forward in the event of a crash. All cables route internally, keeping them out of the way of stray debris and grit. Please note that the frame is ONLY compatible with electric drivetrains which helps limit grit and water ingress. Every size comes with plenty of clearance to keep it free of mud and more. The lightweight carbon frame is easy and comfortable to carry out of the saddle as well. The Cervélo R5-CX is already dominating the cyclocross scene and can now be a part of your off-road adventure.
