SRAM Force 1 Rear Derailleur Info
SRAM’s Force 1 Rear Derailleur is the best way to match up a single-ring front derailleur with an eleven- or ten-speed cassette and get simple, fast, reliable shifting.
Force 1 looks different than other SRAM road rear derailleurs. It’s based on SRAM’s single-ring MTB rear derailleurs, and then adapted to the needs of road riding.
The 1:1 exact actuation ratio is a hallmark of SRAM shifting. It continues here. And it works whether you mate this derailleur with a ten- or eleven-speed Double-Tap shifter. The spring tension has been increased with a roller bearing clutch to make sure the shifting remains crisp across the range of cogs. The linkage plates are wide for improved shifting. The X-Horizon parallelogram design limits the movement on the horizontal access to eliminate ghost-shifting, even under heavy loads. When you want to change the rear wheel, engage the Cage Lock to provide chain slack and the wheel easily come out-and just as easily slides in.
The pulleys possess twelve teeth rather than the eleven you find on other SRAM road derailleurs. The teeth themselves match the X-SYNC tooth shape of SRAM’s single chainring. The space underneath the teeth is hollowed out to clear mud and debris-a huge plus for ‘cross and off-road riding. They run on cartridge bearings.
The only choice you need to make is cage length. If you’re running a tight cassette, like an 11-26 or 11-28, you want the short cage. If you’re doing 11-26 through 11-36, you’ll want a medium cage. If you’re putting on the pie plate cogs, like an 11-32 or a 10-42, pull for the long cage. The short cage version weighs 261g.
The SRAM Force 1 Rear Derailleur stirs SRAM’s 1x shifting drink.
