Colnago C72 Campagnolo Super Record WRL Custom Bike Info

There is a version of road cycling that was invented in Italy, refined in Italy, and exported to the rest of the world. The Colnago C72 Campagnolo Super Record WRL Custom Bike is its clearest expression in a single build — a handmade lugged carbon frameset from Cambiago, limited to 3,000 frames per year, paired with Campagnolo's most advanced 13-speed wireless groupset. Both brands built road cycling's first century. Both are still making the most important things in it.

The C-Series has been the most sold bike series at RA Cycles throughout our history. The C72 is its latest chapter — a road bike built for riders who want real speed, real comfort, and a bike with enough history behind it to mean something beyond the spec sheet. With Campagnolo Super Record 13-speed WRL, it's also the most Italian road machine we build.

Lugged Carbon Construction — 72 Years in the Making

The C72 frame is built from seven separate carbon tubes bonded into distinct lugs — the construction method Colnago has refined across every generation of the C-Series. Independent tube sections allow for precise carbon layup control in each part of the frame, producing a ride character that is planted and responsive in equal measure. The panel gap detail at each lug junction — finished with automotive-level precision — is Colnago's acknowledgment that this frame is as much craftsmanship as engineering.

The frame weighs 895 grams in an unpainted size 48.5, 30 grams lighter than the C68. It is made entirely by hand in Cambiago, Italy, the same workshop where Ernesto Colnago founded the brand in 1954. C64, C68, C72 — each number marks another year the brand has existed. The C72 is Colnago's 72nd year, and this frameset is how they mark it.

Geometry, Ride Character & Clearance

The C72 carries a slightly higher stack-to-reach ratio than the C68, arriving at a geometry that supports both aggressive riding and longer sustainable efforts without asking you to choose between them. The balance point is the defining quality of the C-Series: fast enough for riders who chase speed, comfortable enough to do it day after day. That quality is why this bike has remained RA Cycles' most sold series across decades.

Tire clearance runs to 35mm on standard 700c wheels — wide enough for varied road conditions and serious training setups, without compromising the frame's road character. Axle standards are 12x100mm front and 12x142mm rear thru-axle with flat mount disc brakes. Seven sizes: 42, 45.5, 48.5, 51, 53, 55, and 57cm. Colors at RA Cycles: HFRD (Black/Red), HFWS (Black/Silver/White), HFBK (Black Glossy/Matte), and HFTB (Blue/Light Blue).

CC.02 Integrated Cockpit & Down Tube Storage

The C72 includes Colnago's CC.02 integrated carbon handlebar and stem — 15 grams lighter than the previous CC.01, with a revised drop curve and increased flare at the drops. Cables route fully internally through the cockpit and frame, keeping the front end visually clean and aerodynamically consistent. The fork is a full carbon monocoque disc unit with a 1-1/8" steerer and fully integrated cable routing.

The down tube features a flush-mounted storage compartment housing a pouch with a mini ratchet wrench, CO2 cartridge, and TPU inner tube — everything needed for a mechanical, built into the frame, with the bottle cages mounted flush and the silhouette unbroken. This is an Italian frame. It's supposed to look like one.

BSA 68 Bottom Bracket — Native Campagnolo Threading

The C72 uses a BSA 68mm threaded bottom bracket shell. Campagnolo UltraTorque bottom brackets are manufactured in both BSA (English/68mm) and Italian (70mm) thread specifications, and the C72's BSA shell accepts Campagnolo's threaded UltraTorque BBs directly. No adapters, no press-fit tolerances to manage — just a clean, fully threaded interface between two Italian systems engineered to last. The UltraTorque spindle design, with its two-piece split-axle assembly, pairs cleanly with the BSA shell and delivers the stiffness and engagement feel Campagnolo is known for.

Campagnolo Super Record 13-Speed WRL

Campagnolo Super Record WRL is the most advanced groupset Campagnolo has built — 13 speeds, fully wireless, with electronic precision across every function. Campagnolo measured shift speed at 47% faster than the previous generation. The 13-speed cassette provides tighter steps between gears for smoother cadence management and more precise power delivery across terrain. Battery life is designed for extended riding without constant management, and the system communicates via Campagnolo's own wireless protocol for consistent, interference-free performance.

At RA Cycles, we recommend the Super Record 13 Road 2x13 and Allroad 2x13 for C72 builds. The C72 is a road bike — balanced, endurance-capable, with 35mm tire clearance — and the 2x13 drivetrains match its intended use. Road 2x13 suits riders who want tight cassette steps and a traditional road gearing setup (50/34 or 52/36). Allroad 2x13 opens the cassette range wider for hilly terrain and varied riding conditions while keeping the road character of the build intact. Your consultant will work through the right configuration based on how and where you ride.

Building Your C72 at RA Cycles

RA Cycles has been an authorized Colnago dealer since 1976 and an authorized Campagnolo dealer for even longer. The C-Series has been the most sold bike in our store's history. When you build this combination with us, you work with a team that knows both brands in detail — from frame sizing to groupset configuration to wheel specification. Every build is tailored to the rider receiving it.

The C72 ships as a custom build. Contact us to begin the build process, discuss configuration, and confirm availability.

The RA Perspective

The C Series Colnago has been the most sold bike series in the history of RA Cycles. And the version that carries the most Italian weight — the one that means the most to us as people who have been in this business since 1976 — is this one: C72 with Campagnolo Super Record.

Ernesto Colnago founded his brand in Cambiago in 1954. Tullio Campagnolo invented the quick-release skewer in 1930 and built the derailleur shortly after. These two men, working from different corners of northern Italy, shaped what road cycling became. Every Grand Tour that mattered, every Monument that defined the sport, was won on Italian frames with Italian components for decades. That's not nostalgia — it's the foundation of everything that came after.

The C72 marks 72 years of Colnago's existence. The naming is intentional: C64 in 2018, C68 in 2022, C72 in 2026. Each number is a milestone. This is the bike Colnago makes to say this is who we are. Campagnolo Super Record 13-speed WRL is Campagnolo's most refined groupset in history — 13 speeds, fully wireless, with shift speed that Campagnolo measured at 47% faster than the previous generation. Two brands that have been building the best of what road cycling can be, together on one frame.

The BSA 68 shell accepts Campagnolo's threaded UltraTorque BBs directly. No adapter drama, no press-fit risk — just a clean threaded fit between two Italian systems that were both built to last.

We recommend Super Record 13 Road 2x13 or Allroad 2x13 for the C72. This is a road bike — a balanced, endurance-capable road bike with 35mm tire clearance — and the 2x13 drivetrains give you the cassette range and front shifting flexibility to use the whole frame. Road spec suits the rider who wants a 50/34 or 52/36 setup with tight cassette steps. Allroad opens the range wider for hilly riding and mixed terrain while keeping the road character intact.

The C-Series keeps being the most sold bike at RA Cycles because it's the bike that fits the most riders correctly — not too aggressive, not too forgiving, with enough character to be meaningful and enough capability to be genuinely fast. The C72 with Campagnolo Super Record WRL is the most Italian version of that bike. It's the one we'd ride ourselves.
